Prequels, Sequels and Current Series...oh my!

Cassandra Clare is one busy lady.
She started with a series of 3 books, expanded to 6.
Then to make it even more fun, she started a prequel and sequel series.
*Awkward giggle

Unfortunately for me, I've become hooked on these books and they are taking over my life.

Let's start from the beginning.

A couple years ago I read The Mortal Instruments Series which at that time consisted of 3 books.

City of Bones
City Ashes
City of Glass

I loved them. They helped me get over my Twilight hangover. Then I forgot about them because I thought that was it. Pssshhhhtt. I was wrong.

She started a prequel trilogy, The Infernal Devices.
AND decided to release 3 more books in The Mortal Instruments Series.
And start a sequel series.

So where am I right now?
Have I lost you yet?

So it's been at least 2 years since I read The Mortal Instruments books. I did what any girl would do. I looked them up on Wikipedia and reacquainted myself with them. Then I read City of Fallen Angels (book 4).

I currently finished Clockwork Angel and Clockwork Prince (book 1 and 2 of the prequel trilogy), which I loved and now have to wait until March 2013 to read the third book, Clockwork Princess. As prequels they have roped me in just as the original series did with action, romance and drama.

My next step? I'm going back to The Mortal Instruments to read City of Lost Souls (book 5) and then patiently wait for the final book to come out in 2014.

If you're wondering, all this bouncing around between series does confuse me. She does intertwine characters from each series in and out of all of them. It's maddening and totally worth it.

Luckily, I have until 2015 when the sequel trilogy comes out.

Oh and guess what? They're making them into movies. City of Bones is due out August 2013 starring Lily Collins.

Have you read anything in this series?

What are your thoughts on all this jumping around?

My 16 Year Old Self Would Hate Me Right Now

I realize more and more everyday that I am getting old (I'm 29).
I mean, it happens. People get older and their priorities change.
Most people are told by their kids how uncool they are.
Well since I don't have any of those, I get told by my 14 year old sister.
Yes, I have a 14 year old sister. That's a story for another day.

Anyway.
I was truly blindsided by the fact that I am sometimes not aware of what's "cool".
I really thought I was hip and cool because I was finding things out before my friends were.
I was keeping them in the loop and updated.
I thought I was ahead of the curve.
Apparently not.
I was just ahead of people who are the same age as me, and that doesn't count.

Fortunately, my sister is always there to help me through this tough and trying time.

I have kindly compiled a list of things that I didn't know were cool or just plain didn't know about at all. And yes, I do realize that compiling this also makes me a dork. Enjoy making fun of me.

1.) YOLO means "you only live once". Even though I've been listening to Drake for years, this was something I missed. Apparently just listening to Drake isn't enough to be cool.

2.) Who the hell is One Direction and why have they taken over my favorite radio station with absolute crap? I feel like my boy bands were way better than today's boy bands. Did NSYNC and Backstreet Boys annoy the crap out of people older than us?

3.) Any MTV awards show. I have not watched the VMA's or Movie Awards since MTV was still playing videos (which no one younger than me remembers). I had no idea these shows were still relevant considering people don't watch music videos anymore. You know, because no network actually shows music videos anymore. Silly me.

4.) That Harry Potter is cooler with my generation. Apparently the only acceptable book series to be talking about are the Twilight and Hunger Games series. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

5.) I know some of you are all about this trend, but I grew up in the 80s and 90s. I already owned these and I just CANNOT get back on this fashion trend. There are some trends that just need to stay in their respective times. This is one of them to me. My sister bought a pair of floral jeans and my response was sticking my finger in my mouth and making a vomiting sound. Mature right? That's how I roll.

So there you have it. At least 5 reasons why I am out of touch.

Dear 16 year old Erin,

I dress better than you. But I still listen to much of the same music.

Kisses,
29 year old awesome Erin

So, what makes you "uncool"?

Battle of the Blushes

First of all, can I just tell you I spent weeks on this post? That is dedication people.

This summer I became quite the collector of blushes. It started with one or two and then the next thing I knew, I had 5 different blushes. All five are different brands, different colors and even made from different products.

So why not review them for everyone?

The contenders:

1. bareMinerals Blush in Pink Tourmaline (color no longer available)

What they look like
In the summer when I have a nice tan going, I tend to go more for the coral shades. Whereas in the winter I lean more toward more of a pink color for a rosy cheek look. I feel like I have a good mix of both represented here.

Time for my blush breakdown:

bareMinerals

I'm not really a fan of mineral blush to begin with. I feel it goes on too thick and doesn't blend very well which is exactly what this one does. I find it hard to get the right amount on your brush. There's either too much or too little. However, I am a fan of the color. It's a nice, bright pink.
Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

Sonia Kashuk

This is a really nice blush. The color looks matte in some lights and then shimmery in others. It's more on the coral side which is great for the warmer months. It's more of a subtle color and goes on evenly.
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Sephora

I walked past this blush 3 or 4 times in the store before purchasing it. I was always a powder blush girl and was scared to venture out to cream blushes. In the end, I was really impressed with it and I'm glad I got it. The color is fantastic. When I wear this blush I don't need a bronzer, it's like a 2 in 1. It's also super easy to blend. I apply it on the apples of my cheeks with my finger, then use a blush brush to blend it back through my cheek bones. The color I have is a nice mix of coral and pink tones.
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Stila

This blush was a recommendation from a girlfriend of mine. Basically, the powder reacts with your skin's pH to create a one-of-a-kind, customized shade. Which is great because every day I use it, it looks different. I was so nervous at first. They only carry two colors for this blush: coral and pink. Since I already had quite a few coral's, I bought the pink one. When you open the compact at first, all you see is the brightest pink. My first thought was, "I'm going to look ridiculous!" Boy was I wrong, it's amazing. Be careful, don't apply too much. It's easy to over do it. Give it a couple minutes to settle on your face before adding more. This is the most expensive of all the blushes I bought, priced at $20.
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Maybelline

This blush is super weird. It's creamy, gel-like and wet all at the same time. At first I was like, "eww". The product shows up on your face as a matte color and is a little hard to blend. It definitely takes a little work. I apply it the same way I do the Sephora cream blush, but I have to blend more with my fingers than with the brush. Don't let the texture fool you, too much will cake on your face and you don't want that. Less is definitely more with one as well.
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Ding, Ding, Ding

And the winner is...

Stila Custom Color Blush

Definitely my favorite blush ever. It's great to use in the summer and winter. I'm so glad I let my friend talk me into it. It's totally worth the $20!

Are you going to check out any of these blushes?
What are some of your go to blushes?

Brain Dead

It's been a long week, my brain is fried and the good news is I don't have to travel this weekend.
I'm going to be really pissed if I have to get off my couch.

The bad news is I have nothing of worth to contribute today.
So I thought I'd do another round of...

This is how I feel by Friday...

What describes your week?

TGIF, see you on Monday.

Book It!

Anyone else have the Book It! program at their school? Reading books = getting insane amounts of Pizza Hut for your school...hell yeah! Anyway, I was just trying to catchy with my post title. Don't mind me.

Since life has kinda, sorta slowed down since the summer I have more time to read! I finished the Infernal Devices Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare and I immediately went out and bought Infernal Devices Clockwork Prince. I'm almost done that and both book reviews will be up soon. Has anyone gotten into this prequel to the Mortal Instruments series? I love them all, but there's a lot of info and characters. Sometimes it's hard to keep everything straight that I end up reading summaries from the other books to refresh my memory. Plus the books come out a year later so I always forget what's going on. I still love them though.

Anyway, I have some books lined up but I'm definitely on the hunt for more good reads. Speaking of goodreads do you follow me on there? I love being able to see what everyone is reading and what they thought of it. It's also a great place to find new things.

My current "to read" list includes:

Witch and Wizard Series

Fifty Shades Series

The Help

The Host

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

Divergent Series

The Twelve

City of Lost Souls

Her Fearful Symmetry
Matched Series

And I'm so excited this just came out...

This is totally going on my coffee table.

So what else should I be reading? Pile it on! The more, the merrier!

Happy reading!

Me, Myself & I Link Up Party

I'm linking up again with:

I am so excited for this month's questions! Ready?

 1) When you're feeling down, what do you do to pick yourself up?

It really depends on how down I am. Sometimes I really just need to be alone, blow off some steam and get my mind off things. I usually do that by surfing the internet, reading or just watching tv. I'll also turn on funny shows to help, but I have been known to watch a depressing Lifetime movie to make myself feel better. No one has it as bad as those Lifetime movies!

2)  If you had to live in a different time period which would you prefer?

I have always thought I belonged in a different time period. I'm so torn between a few time periods in history. One would definitely be early 1900s. I've always wanted to dress just like Kate Winslet in Titanic.

I would have also loved to live in the 1930s and 1940s. I know we were in the middle of WWII, but it is a time period I've always been interested in. Being able to see a country come together to defeat a dictator would be amazing. I probably would have joined the Army Nurse Corps and traveled the world (that is because I've seen Pearl Harbor and In Love and War too many times).

Finally, even though I think I'd have a hard time being married off to some older royal (because of course I'd be the daughter of a duke or something), I would have loved to live in the Elizabethan Era. If not for the fashion alone, for the art and literature! Plus I'd have a British accent and that would be awesome.

3)  What is the most creative Halloween costume you've ever worn?

I don't really remember to be honest with you. Even when I was little, I was always something very popular. I was never unique. However, my mom didn't let me buy a prepackaged costume every year so sometimes I had to make do with what I could find around my house. I remember putting together a hippie and a rockstar costume together all on my own. Thank goodness I have no idea where those pictures are right now.

4)  Five weird things about you we wouldn't know without being told?

I don't eat beans. I love chili and Mexican food, but I hate beans. My mom used to make me a separate pot of chili sans beans.

I can't snap with either hand.

I read magazines from the back to the front.

I love scary movies, haunted houses and all things scary, but I worry it will give me nightmares.

I can touch my tongue to my nose.

5)  What would you tell your 16-year-old self?

Work harder in school!! I didn't apply myself in high school. I was a total social butterfly. I didn't start really caring about school until college.

I didn't get into too much trouble in high school so I'll let my 16 year old self have her fun. There of course were a few questionable boys that I wish I would have stayed away from. However, they shall remain nameless.

Fall Fashion Inspiration

It's just about that time to break rearrange the closet, put away the flip flops and bring out the boots. I definitely have a few more essential fall items to pick up, but I'm well on my way to a stylish fall. This year is all about blazers for me, I can't wait to pick up one or two more (preferably khaki and navy) to complete my wardrobe.

Here are a few (ok a lot) of my fave fall outfits that I've pinned recently. The outfits range from comfy and casual to work attire and even a night out on the town. Enjoy!

White After Labor Day

I don't know about you, but the whole "not wearing white after Labor Day rule" is BS to me. Here in PA, it can still be beautiful weather through October. Why am I not allowed to wear white? It's dumb. So I boycott it and I don't care what anyone thinks! So there. I am not ready to put away my white patent leather pumps, white jeans or white shorts. And for your information, I have been known to wear flip flops until late November. I just blew your mind, didn't I?

Thanks to the lovely Nicholl, I'm addicted to this online shop SheInside. Have you heard of it? It's amazeballs. For real.

I fell in love with this dress. And I don't know if I should get it in black or white. I leave it to the blogosphere to help me make my decision.

Black and White Vintage Dresses from SheInside
*Sorry for the poor picture quality*
I'm leaving towards the black right now only because I want to wear it at a wedding. But I'm always a sucker for white.

Thoughts?
