The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Film Review

After I got off of work on my birthday last week, the only thing I wanted to do was go see this movie. Now you guys know that I am usually disappointed with book to movie conversions, but I have to say that I was extremely impressed with this movie.

First off, Rooney Mara did a FANTASTIC job as Lisbeth Salander. All the piercings she has in the movie she actually got done for her role (there were a lot btw). She was exactly how I had imagined her in my mind as I read the book. I hope she gets some recognition for her role. During an interview, the director had touched on other actresses that were being considered for the role and I'm so glad they chose Rooney. I couldn't have imagined that character being played by Scarlett Johansson, Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman, Ellen Page or Carrie Mulligan. As far as the other actors cast, I was very happy with those choices as well. You really can't go wrong with Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer or Robin Wright.

The transformation from book to movie was almost flawless. The things that were left out were not important, only a small amount was even changed and you didn't need to read the book to understand the movie. I think I only answered two questions Tim had after the movie was over.

I've talked to people who have seen that have read the book and who haven't. The ones that read the book are impressed and the one who didn't read the book now want to. When my mother saw the preview for the book she shuddered and said, "No, I can't see that." My grandmother ended up dragging her to see it and now she's reading the books and wants to see the movie again.

It was beautifully done and I can't wait until the second and third movies come out! Just be prepared at the theater, this movie is 3 hours long.

Have you seen The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo yet? What did you think?

And don't forget to link up on Monday! I promise there will be a post next week (sorry Neely)! I can't wait to see all of your favorites!!

It's Ok Thursday

Its Ok Thursdays

I'm linking up with Amber and Neely again for another It's Ok Thursday and you should too!

It's OK:

To have gotten every freaking thing you put on your Christmas list (and then some).

To have NOT gone overboard with food over the holidays.

To never be able to find the perfect gift for your father.

To have shopped up until 3 pm on Christmas Eve.

To take the time to meet up with people you haven't seen in years.

To want to spend ALL the money you got for Christmas instead of saving it.

To cry when you opened up a certain gift.

To have filled a 3 foot tall bag full of (new) dog toys that all 4 dogs got for Christmas.

To not believe how fast the holiday season went.

To hope and pray that 2012 is a good year.

To have gotten every Harry Potter book and DVD for Christmas.

To be grateful for being able to spend time with family and friends over the holidays.

To have not gotten a white Christmas after all (but it did flurry for 10 minutes on Christmas Eve, just for affect I guess).

Gifts For My Techy Side

I didn't ask for a lot of techy items this Christmas. Mostly because I found all these great gadgets after I had already submitted my Christmas list (oops). So hopefully with some gift cards and extra cash I'll be able to purchase some of these awesome items in 2012.

Sony NEX-5
I love my current camera, but lately I've realized it's slowly getting outdated. The pictures I take are not coming out as nice as they used to be and my iPhone 4S sometimes gets better captures than mine. So hopefully in 2012 I'll be in the market for a new camera. When I bought the camera I have now I spent months researching it. I have always been a Canon girl, but this Sony makes me drool. It's compact, has interchangeable lenses, a tiltable 3" LCD screen and comes in cool colors (always important when buying a camera). Price tag $499 which is a jump from what I paid for my Canon which was around $200. I'm not a professional photographer, but I do like taking photos and I want them to look nice. I'm definitely going to consider this one.

Pioneer AVIC-Z130BT GPS/DVD receiver
This thing is amazing! I would recommend this to anyone who's not looking to buy a new car soon, but wants all the bells and whistles a new car comes with. This baby is a DVD player, navigation, bluetooth audio, HD radio, internet radio receiver in one. Get this installed in your car and it's like you bought a brand new one! You can stream Pandora, watch movies and get to where you're going. The best part for me is the voice activated, hands free bluetooth feature as well. It's on the pricey side, but well worth it, $1499 plus installation.
Sonos Play 3
I was unfamiliar with this whole wireless audio thing until I was at my friends house for a holiday party and he was changing songs from his phone! I was amazed and hooked. Basically the Sonos Play 3 is the smaller version of wireless speakers. There's also a Play 5 which is bigger and can be used in a main room and then have the smaller ones throughout the house. You can wirelessly control every player in your house from a Mac, PC, Sonos control or download the free app for your smartphone or tablet. You can even play different songs in different rooms and stream internet radio such as Pandora. They even have a dock that hooks up wirelessly as well for your iPhone or iPod so you can play music from there! Wanna hook up your own speakers or home theater you can do that too, I swear! Now depending on how many speakers you want to connect this can get pricey as well anywhere from $800 and up. At some point this system will be going in my home. Guarantee it.

Time Command
The smartest alarm clock out there. This will even control your lamp for you to help you get out of bed (this is why I need this). Can it make my coffee too? And with a battery back-up you won't have to worry about a power outage. Plus alarm sets are transferred between phone to device. This is a neat little thing and it's relatively inexpensive $99!

These are my must have tech devices for 2012. What are some of yours?

It's Ok Thursday

Its Ok Thursdays

I'm linking up with Amber and Neely again for another It's Ok Thursday and you should too!

 It's Ok:

To celebrate your birthday numerous times during your birthday month.

To STILL not be done your Christmas shopping.

To have watched Elf 50 times in the last month.

To have had an iPhone for almost 4 years and still learn new things it can do (see post).

To give a homeless man pizza while in downtown Philly.

To be a little irritated at certain friends who didn't call or text you on your birthday.

To be the bigger person.

To give second chances.

To wear the same sweat pants 3 days in a row.

To keep finding things to add to your Christmas list.

To slack off on your workout regimen.

What's ok with you?

Uh yeah, it's my birthday...

So the day is finally here, my last year of my twenties has begun. I didn't really know what to post today, but I came across this awesome gem on You Tube. It's New Kids on the Block singing happy birthday. Too funny, enjoy!

I don't have any plans for tonight since it's a Wednesday and all, but I'm hoping if I can get out of work at a decent time tonight I'm going to go see...

Here's the new risque poster that came out. If you want to see what's behind the date you can google it. I try to have a PG-13 blog. LOL.
And if for some reason you have not seen the 8 minute trailer...

I've been waiting all year to see this movie, so glad it came out on my birthday!

Birthday Celebration #1

Yeah so I'm kinda spoiled and get a few birthday celebrations. My first birthday celebrations was with Tim's family a couple weeks ago (before everything got so hectic). Tim's mom made an awesome crab cake dinner and my birthday cake was a frozen oreo cake from Carvel. It was amazing.

Tim's parent's got me:

Vampire Diaries Season 2

Victoria's Secret Gift Card

Next, Tim surprised me with something I didn't expect:

iPod Classic

My iPod was dying a slow death, but I didn't expect him to get me a new one! I didn't even ask for it. I was so happy! He also got me:

iSkin case in PopStar (the pink one)

I also got some screen protectors for my iPhone which I was in desperate need of.
All in all my first birthday celebration was awesome and I got to spend it with my second family.

OOTD - MiMO by Pinterest

Source: polyvore.com via Erin on Pinterest

As soon as I saw this outfit on Pinterest, I fell in love with it. I couldn't wait until I could make it my own and I was so happy when I finally got the denim chambray shirt from Express to top off the look.

Dual Pocket Chambray Shirt from Express
Leggings from H&M
Grey Lace Tank from Abercrombie & Fitch
Intyce Boots from Steve Madden

Not the best picture I know, but I loved how the outfit turned out. I wanted to add some knit socks to it, but they are on my Christmas list so I'll have to wait on that one. Have you done a MiMo (make it my own) look recently?

"Favorite of the Week" Link Up #7

Since you can choose anything for the favorite of the week, I chose something that wasn't a physical object. My favorite this week is the holiday season.

This being crunch time and the final week before Christmas, it's also my favorite time. Why you ask? Well there are a number of reasons. For one, my birthday is this week and even though I don't like getting older, I enjoy celebrating it. Lucky for me, I usually get more then one celebration.

I also love all the parties and get-together's going on. This is the time of year where you usually get to see people you don't see much during the year. Everyone is in town to celebrate with their families.

So enjoy these last few days leading up to Christmas. Take it all in, don't get stressed out and remember, "Tis' the season"!

What's your favorite of the week this week?

An Idiot Moment

Don't you just love (or hate) when you realize something or figure something out that was right in front of your face the whole time? I find that I have these moments a lot. Every once in a while I get one of those DOH! moments (cue Homer Simpson). I'm not embarrassed to share when I do, it's just usually something that is hard to on a blog. I like having visuals and not just tell you guys a story. Anyway, I have one of those for you to share with you today. I hope it brightens your day, gives you a little chuckle or makes you feel like you're not the only one who has these moments either.

If you have Twitter, I'm sure you have some sort of app for it on your phone no matter what kind of phone you use. I have an iPhone and I choose not to use the Twitter app, I use the Echofon app. I have since I started using Twitter. So for months I had been doing one extra step to use a hash tag or tweet to a specific person. I just realized there is a simpler option that was in front of my face the WHOLE time!

When I go to tweet, this is the screen that pops up. I NEVER saw those two buttons on the right. I was always clicking on the "123" button and going into the characters to find them. Seriously. Imagine my surprise when one day I saw them.

Yep that's how happy I was, I tweeted about it. And not one person responded to it, that's how I knew I was having an idiot moment. Thank you for letting me share this with you today. I know I'm a nerd.

Don't forget...

Get your posts ready for Monday!!

It's Ok Thursday

Its Ok Thursdays

I'm linking up with Amber and Neely again for another It's Ok Thursday and you should too!

It's OK:

To have over half of your Christmas shopping left to do.

To still be dreading turning 29 next week.

To feel bad for people in retail during this time of year because you remember what it was like.

To start a New Year's resolution early (or late depending on how you look at it).

To already start panicking about fitting into a bathing suit again by the end of January because you're going to Florida.

To not have sent one darn Christmas card this year (because of my current living situation).

To still be pissed off that my parents never got me that Power Wheels Jeep that I wanted for YEARS!

To have anti-social days.

To want it to freaking snow on Christmas!

To turn on Spongebob Squarepants when nothing else is on. It's hilarious.

To count down the days until the final season of One Tree Hill starts.

To buy gifts for the doggies in the family.

What's ok with you?

Christmas Quiz

One of my bloggie BFF's, Kristine at Living a Barefoot and Crazy Lifestyle, posted this awesome Christmas Quiz over on her blog the other day. I told her I loved it and that I was going to steal it from her. If you don't follow her already, you must head on over there right this instant. She's a great girl and her and I clicked immediately as I'm sure most of you will! Anywho, enjoy my Christmas Quiz to get you ready for the big day! Enjoy!

Living Barefoot and Crazy

1. Eggnog or hot chocolate? Apparently my Dad makes a mean eggnog, but I've never tried it. So I'm gonna go with hot chocolate as long as it has some Bailey's in it!

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just set them under the tree? Uh, he wraps everything! He's freaking Santa, duh! Who doesn't have wrapped presents under their tree? (Not trying to offend anyone if that's how they roll)

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? I don't have a preference as long as it doesn't look like Rudolph threw up all over your yard.

4. Do you hang mistletoe? I never have, but my grandparents used to at their house. Sadly, I never kissed someone underneath it. I think I forgot it was there.

5. When do you put your decorations up? It depends on how crazy things are. Some times it's the first week in December, sometimes it's on the 19th (slacker years).

6. What is your favorite holiday dish? Christmas eve dinner (technically more than a dish per-say) which consists of cream of mushroom soup (homemade), lobster, angel hair pasta and garlic green beans.

7. Favorite holiday memory as a child? My grandparents used to throw a huge Christmas Eve bash every year and I would get to see family that I don't see often. There was always so much food and great people to see. I miss those parties.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? Technically, I found out about the Easter Bunny first and it just trickled down to the other figures like Santa and the Tooth Fairy. My Dad used to have a dry erase board on the fridge and I would leave the Easter Bunny, Santa, etc. a note. Then Santa (my Dad) would write me a note back that I would read in the morning. One year I woke up and instead of a note back from the Easter Bunny, there was a note that said "Love, Dad". I freaked. I should have known it was coming because I stopped giving Santa cookies and milk and started leaving beer and pretzels. I was told Santa needed a break! I love my parents.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? There were a few years where we were and then we stopped. I don't know why. I think it's because my sister got older and she could wait until morning to open her presents.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree? Well, Tim puts the tree in the stand for me and walks away. So I do it however the heck I want! LOL. I have a set of ornaments that match and then I throw in our own ornaments as well. I started putting a ribbon on the tree too.

11. Snow! Love it or dread it? Love it as long as I get off of work.

12. Can you ice skate? Not very well, but I get better as I go.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? I can't choose one. Every year seems to top the year before. I love when my parents surprise us though. Usually we'll think all the presents are given and then they come out with these other ones and we freak out. One year I got a Coach purse and my sister got her iPod touch. Another year I got my Bose sound system and she got her motorized scooter.

14. What’s the most important thing about the holidays for you? Family. Things have changed dramatically since my grandfather died a couple years ago. However, we've kept it together and started some new and different traditions that seem to be working. I hate change and yearn for how things used to be, but I'm very thankful for a wonderful and strong family.

15. What is your favorite holiday dessert? Kiffles. If you don't know what they are, they are a German cookie. My grandmother is from Germany and has always made these cookies around Christmas time every year. I have never met a person who has not liked them. I can't even describe them because it wouldn't do them justice. I promise to take pictures of them, but I can't give you the recipe because it's a family secret.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Our Christmas Eve dinner that I talked about earlier. It's become just my Dad, step mom, sister and Tim. It used to be more family, but now it's less chaotic and more intimate and relaxing. The food is amazing and it's a great start to Christmas.

17. What tops your tree? I have yet to find a star I like so currently it's a bow I make from the ribbon I use on the tree. Not very special.

18. Which do you prefer: giving or receiving? I can't choose. I love opening presents. I would rather everything be wrapped individually so it looks like I have so much to open. I think it's my inner only child ( I was one for 15 years). However, I LOVE giving gifts. I always go overboard and I love seeing everyone's faces as they open them. It's a great feeling.

19. Candy canes: yuck or yum? YUM! My favorite is the fruit ones, love them!

20. Favorite Christmas show? By show, does that mean movie? I was confused by this one. I'm just going to pick It's A Wonderful Life. Have to watch it EVERY year.

21. Saddest Christmas song? Um, "Christmas Shoes" hands down. I can't even listen to it. AND it has a book to go with it, depressing!

“He said, I wanna buy these shoes, for my mama, please. It’s Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size. Can you hurry, please? Daddy says there’s not much time. You see, she’s been sick for quite a while and I know these shoes will make her smile and I want her to look beautiful, if mommy meets Jesus tonight.”

Seriously! I can't take how sad this song is!

22. What’s your favorite Christmas song? I love so many. "Last Christmas" by Wham! always makes me smile because I heart the 80s and George Michael. This year I have been obsessed with "Baby, It's Cold Outside".

So that's my Christmas Quiz, I hope you enjoyed reading my answers. Feel free to steal it, I won't be offended.

OOTD - Holiday Party

Last month I posted two similar outfits that I loved from H&M for upcoming holiday parties I had this month (see original post here). I was starting to give up hope on finding either dress because my H&M had nothing and of course you can't purchase online yet. Fortunately, luck was on my side when I went with a girlfriend last week (2 days before the party). I nearly screamed when I saw it I was that excited!

Dress from H&M
Pattern Tights from H&M
Mossimo Pemota Chunky Heel Pump from Target

As far as accessories went, I can thank my step mother for all of them. She gave me the necklace, watch, bracelet and ring! She even gave me her black and white checkered pea coat to wear with it. Sorry no picture of that! The pattern tights came in a two pack. The ones I'm wearing were zebra and the other pattern was leopard. Can't wait to wear them!

Needless to say I was so happy I was able to put this outfit together after all. I got tons of compliments on it. Next time I promise to take better pictures of my accessories. Sorry for the failure on that.

Normally I would post pictures from the party, but I didn't take any! We were all just having so much fun we never took pictures.

And would it be a party if I didn't make something? Of course not! I made a repeat item, nothing new.

Hot Onion Dip (recipe here)
I wasn't in the mood to try anything new, I was running around like a crazy woman and needed something quick and easy that I knew would be awesome.

Have you been to any holiday parties yet? What did you wear or bring with you?

The Mortal Instruments: City of Fallen Angels Review

So after I blew through The Hunger Games trilogy, I wanted something to read that was along the same lines. I was craving a similar story line. So I thought I should probably read the 4th book in The Mortal Instruments series. I read the first three books over two years ago! I really had no idea she was even going to add more books to the series because at the end of City of Glass, everything seemed to be wrapped up. Boy was I wrong. Last year, she came out with the first book of three that were set as prequels to the current series. These are called The Infernal Devices. The first book is Clockwork Angel which I bought right away when it came out (still haven't read it). So I didn't want to start the prequel series before I was completely caught up on the current one. Needless to say I don't recommend waiting so long in between books. I had to look up so much stuff when I started reading City of Fallen Angels because I couldn't remember anything from when I read them two years ago! Wikipedia was my best friend.

Even though I had to play catch up, I still really enjoy this series. At first I thought the whole thing was going to be too sci-fi, but it's not too bad. The story lines help reel it back down to Earth. Below is a summary of City of Fallen Angels, but if you haven't read the first three books it will confuse you and sound kinda corny. Just warning you.

The Mortal War is over, and Clary Fray is back home in New York, excited about all the possibilities before her. She's training to become a Shadowhunter and to use her unique power. Her mother is getting married to the love of her life. Downworlders and Shadowhunters are at peace at last. And—most important of all—Clary can finally call Jace her boyfriend.

But nothing comes without a price.

Someone is murdering the Shadowhunters who used to be in Valentine’s Circle, provoking tensions between Downworlders and Shadowhunters that could lead to a second bloody war. Clary’s best friend, Simon, can’t help her. His mother just found out he’s a vampire and now he’s homeless. Everywhere he turns, someone wants him on their side—along with the power of the curse wrecking his life. And they’re willing to do anything to get what they want. At the same time he’s dating two beautiful, dangerous girls—neither of whom knows about the other.

When Jace begins to pull away from Clary without explaining why, she is forced to delve into the heart of a mystery whose solution reveals her worst nightmare: She herself has set in motion a terrible chain of events that could lead to her losing everything she loves. Even Jace.

Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. The stakes are higher than ever in City of Fallen Angels.

Of course this one ended with a cliffhanger! The 5th book, City of Lost Souls, is set to be released in May 2012 and the final 6th book will be out in September 2013. Luckily, the prequels can keep you occupied in between AND now a sequel series was announced as well. Called The Dark Artifices, the story is set five years after the end of The Mortal Instruments.

If you like The Hunger Games, Twilight or The Vampire Diaries books you can get into these. I enjoy reading them, but I don't get as crazed as I did over the other books. They are in the works of turning the first book, City of Bones, into a movie. So maybe after that movie gets some buzz, I'm sure these books will too!

Have you read any of The Mortal Instrument's books?

"Favorite of the Week" Link Up #6

To be honest, I had a hard time finding my fave this week. There are so many things that I had to choose from! However, I really noticed these last couple days with the temperature really dropping here in the northeast that my skin has begun to get really dry. I can't avoid it, every winter my skin is bound to get dry. So I thought I'd share my fave skin care products that really help me through these cold winter months!

Lubriderm Advanced Therapy Lotion

I started using this lotion because I saw that it was the highest recommended lotion in one of the magazines I read. I went through so many lotions over the years. I was always feeling greasy, or the lotion would flake or the worst was I would have to reapply so frequently it was not worth it! This lotion not only helps me through the winter months, but the hot summer months as well. When I burnt my butt off in the Dominican last year, this lotion saved my life! Anyway, in the the winter I no longer get scaly skin or flaking, even after taking a super hot shower to warm up from the cold. This stuff rocks!

Oil of Olay Active Hydrating Lotion

This stuff is what I've used on my face since high school people! I swear by it. It's not thick, greasy or smelly. I have been using this twice a day for over ten years, I love it! I never feel like it clogs my pores or makes me break out either.

So, what's your favorite of the week?

Time to get serious

I don't normally get serious with you guys. I feel like there's so much bad out there in the world, you don't need me bringing you down about anything sad (not that there's anything wrong with those who do, not trying to offend here). I'm gonna let you all in today much like a lot of you already do with your blogs. I share my personal life with some of you via email or twitter, but I haven't really done an emotional blog post since I started this blog. Well that's going to change today. I was offered to do a post for the American Cancer Society. I'm doing it not just because it helps a good cause, but because cancer has affected my life and my family.

This is my Poppop. He lost his battle with cancer almost 3 years ago. I had never had to deal with cancer until that point. Now I am among the millions who hate cancer, who blame cancer and who would love nothing better than for it to disappear off the face of the earth.

As you can tell from the picture, he was a man that loved life. He was a family man, a hard working man and he was my role model. And if I could truly have one wish for my birthday it would be to have him back.

I'd like to dedicate the video below to him, to everyone who has lost a family member or friend to cancer and to anyone who has beat it. I found it even more fitting that it is a video that has to do with giving people of the world more birthdays since it is my birthday month and more birthdays is what everyone deserves.

I would love to tell you all more about my grandfather, but just to write this much was hard enough on me. During this holiday season, let your loved ones know how much they are truly loved. Thanks for letting me share guys. Sorry for the downer today.

One Tree Hill Season 9 Promo

Hi, my name is Erin and I have been watching One Tree Hill for 9 years. I have every season on DVD, except season 8 because I asked for it for Christmas. The list of friends that I know that watch this show has dwindled over the years, but I remain a true fan! It is now only a matter of weeks until the final season starts (should have been a full season, but I'll take 12 episodes over none at all). Who me bitter? No. LOL. Anyway, I couple days ago there was a promo posted for the new season, but it was only available via facebook. I finally got the darn video to share if anyone cares. I know some of you do. HA! Anyway, I'm very excited for it's return. The beginning of the end is near. Thanks loves for letting me share with you another obsession of mine.

Are you a fan of One Tree Hill? Are you excited for the final season?

Holiday Favorites Link Up #2

I totally meant for this to post this morning, but just realized that I never scheduled it and was chillin' as a draft. My bad ladies.

Today I'm linking up with Michelle and Lyndsay to share some of my holiday favorites!
Today's topic is:
Holiday Movies
 (in no particular order)

The first time I saw this movie I didn't even make it through 20 minutes. I hated it and made Tim turn it off. I can't believe I did that because this is one of my all time faves.

My favorite scene, "It's just nice to meet another human who shares my affinity for elf culture." I die every time!

I've loved this movie since I was a child and have always dreamed about that huge house one day to be mine!

This movie is just a classic and I've always loved it. I HAVE to watch it in black and white though, I can't watch it in color.

I know everyone loves the original, but I just love this remake. I still have this on VHS and I start watching it in November.

I watch this movie while I wrap presents because I can watch it in peace without Tim complaining about watching a chick flick. I tried to get the scene of Hugh Grant dancing to "Jump", but they wouldn't let me be able to embed the video. Boo.

One of my favorite Bill Murray movies of all time.

I love all the Santa Clause movies, but this one was the best.

It still cracks me up that Taylor Momsen from Gossip Girl is Cindy Lou Who.

Yes I watch this movie on TBS on Christmas Day ALL DAY LONG!

Another movie from my childhood that I still love to watch.

I don't know if many of you have even seen this movie. I love the Nutcracker, I've seen it performed a ton of times. I even like the Macaulay Culkin version, but this one used to be shown on HBO back in the day. I still love it, but can never find it!

So what are your favorite holiday movies??
