The Hunger Games Series Review

I've been told my many of you and many other friends that I need to read the Hunger Games trilogy. I can't tell you why I was putting it off. I knew I would like it, but I think it was because I really didn't know much about it. When I saw the trailer for the new movie coming out next year I was like, "Ok, that looks good. I should read it before the movie comes out." So I put away the Carrie Diaries book I was reading (which could not hold my attention btw) and grabbed Hunger Games to start reading when we left for Boston (for the plane). As you all know I was in Boston 2 weekends ago...I finished the last book, Mockingjay, last Saturday night! For reals...could not put these books down!

These books have rivaled the love and obsession I have for the Twilight books. I have literally gotten to the phase where I look everything up I possibly can about the series and the upcoming film. Yep, total nerd here!

First of all, the books were a lot more gruesome than I thought they were gonna be. I never had an idea about what they were about before I started reading them so it kinda took me by surprise. I think each book built well on each other and I think the underlying love story is what ultimately got me (yeah I know, I'm a mush). I could feel the intensity of trying to keep each other alive and then it was just one thing after another. I haven't talked out loud with a book since the Twilight Saga. Where I've literally looked up from what I was reading and go, "Oh my God!" I laughed, cried, pulled my hair out, etc.

I have to say the one advantage with these books is that I saw the trailer for the movie before I started reading the books so I imagined the characters as I had seen them. Whereas with Twilight, I read them before the movies came out so I had already formed in my mind what the characters should look like and act (which is why the movies had let me down so much).

If you haven't read these books I cannot stress enough how much I suggest them. They are truly one of those series that grabs you from the beginning, never lets go and then leaves you wanting more after the last sentences are read. I CAN'T wait to see the first movie come out in March, it seems like a lifetime away. I could probably talk about his all day so I'll leave you with the trailer for the first move, due out March 23, 2012. Enjoy!

Are you excited to see/read The Hunger Games?

Fabulous Holiday Blog Challenge Day 2

Fabulous Holiday Blog Challenge

I'm linking up with Neely and Amber for their Fabulous Holiday Blog Challenge!
Today's topic:
Favorite Holiday Tradition

Since my step-mom comes from a Ukrainian background, we have always celebrated with traditional-ish Ukrainian Christmas Eve dinner for as long as I can remember. It has now become one of my favorite meals of the year. Which is funny because a long time ago my grandparents used to have a HUGE Christmas Eve party (one of those where you would only see those people on THAT night during the year). My dad used to make us alternate years and I remember getting so mad, but now it's my favorite holiday tradition. Funny how things change. Anywho...

Our Christmas Eve dinner consists of: Homemade cream of mushroom soup, lobster tail, angel hair pasta, garlic green beans and a blue cheese and pear salad

It's also Tim's favorite dinner of the year as well, you can tell how excited he was.
My step-mom is a wonderful cook and I'm glad it's become one of my favorite holiday traditions.
What are your favorite holiday traditions?
Link up with Neely and Amber and make sure you check out the rest of the topics!

"Favorite of the Week" Link Up #4

Everything According to Erin

Hello everyone! How was your holiday? Sorry for my little hiatus, I was in South Carolina visiting my mom and I decided to "unplug" for the weekend. It's actually very, very late as I'm currently writing this because I forgot about my own link up! That's what vacation does to you.

Anyway, we did some shopping while I was down there. Since I don't get to see my mom for my birthday in December, she always buys me my Christmas/Birthday presents for me at Thanksgiving. It's like a little treat for me, plus I love shopping with my mom. It's something we've always done together. This year I wanted a new purse and I'm so happy about the purse I got that it is my favorite thing this week (and probably for weeks to come).

I was so excited when I got it that I don't even know the name of the style or anything. I literally ripped the tags off as soon as I got home and transferred all my stuff to it. I love my new birthday present and that's why it's my favorite of the week.

So...what's your favorite of the week??

Christmas List

I had to get my Christmas list together for my parents the other day (yes, they still make us give them lists) and I was thinking I'd share some of the items I was asking for. I think it would be really neat to see what is on every one's wish list's. So here are some of things I asked for this year.

Knee High Stiletto Boots

Tortoise Fossil Watch

Harry Potter Book Collection

Marc Jacobs iPhone Case

Harry Potter DVD Collection
Michael Kors Wallet

These are just a few of the things I asked for this year. What's on your Christmas List?

Weekend Recap - Boston

Tim and I spent last weekend visiting a good friend of mine in Boston. It had been years since either of us had been there and I really wanted to see her since she recently got engaged. We had been tossing it around for a while, they were always asking us to come up and visit. When we lived in DC we were always asking them to come down to us. Finally we just pulled the trigger and booked the flight and I'm really glad we did. We had an AMAZING weekend, I'm still recovering from it actually. Everyone has been asking us "Oh, did you do this or go see that?" I'm gonna tell you right now, no we didn't. We spend the whole weekend eating and drinking and talking, and to be honest I couldn't have asked for more. I wish I would have taken more pics, but like I said we were just hanging out.

My first drink to start the trip while we were at the airport.

After we got there, we pretty much just dropped off our stuff and headed out to grab some food and drinks (sorry, no pics).

However, if any of you have seen the movie The Town, my friends literally live a stones throw from the Flower Shop that is in it. I couldn't find a screen shot of how it looks in the movie, but here's what it looks like.
Look familiar? We thought it was very exciting.
The next day we headed out for a tour of the Harpoon Brewery which was awesome.

We got a tour of the brewery and got to try some awesome beers.
The brewery is located on the waterfront and next to it is a restaurant called Legal Harborside. The food was amazing and it has this indoor/outdoor rooftop deck that we grabbed drinks at before our reservations were ready. They almost had to roll all four of us out of there because we were so stuffed.

Here we are outside on the rooftop deck. My camera sucked at getting the view behind us which was the pretty waterfront with the airport in the back ground. Oh well.
This was one of our appetizers, some of the best Oysters I ever had!

Tim decided to go big or go home and got the massive Seafood dinner.

I ordered tuna that was to die for.

Tim in his bib eating his lobster.
The next morning went to a place called West End Johnnie's where they have a reggae brunch! It was awesome to just sit, relax, eat and listen to reggae!

After brunch it was time to do some actual site seeing so they drove us all around the city so we could see the sights. It was a great way to end a wonderful weekend. I edited these pictures with the instagram app on my phone to spruce them up a bit.

Got to see Harvard's campus.

And MIT...

Had to drive by Cheers!

Anyway, that was our weekend in Boston. I wish I would have taken more pictures, but at the same time it was nice to just get away and not have to worry about anything. Thank you so much to our friends Kyra and Grant for letting us come and visit, we can't wait to see you guys again (probably Saint Patty's, LOL).

How were your weekend's? Do anything fun?

Just Add Color Fall Swap Reveal

I joined Jessica and Ashlee for their first ever Just Add Color Fall Swap! Now this is my first swap ever and I was especially excited because we were swapping two of my favorite accessories...nail polish and scarves!

Luckily, I was paired up with an absolutely AWESOME person, Lindsay at Our Lovely Life. If you have not started following her, you should like right now. I'm so glad I got the chance to really get to know another person in the blog world.

Wanna see what I got?? The suspense is killing you, I know.
Sorry, I know the color is chipped, but I had just got back home from Boston. I forgot to take a pic before I left and it looked perfect.

Anyway, Lindsay pretty much hit taste on the head. I got an infinity scarf in white that is sooo warm and OPI's The One That Got Away. Here's a better pic of it that I found:

(via)

It is a perfect blend of pink and red that is good for any season. Luckily, with all the colors I have, I don't have one like this one. Thank you Lindsay for your wonderful items!

Make sure you head over Lindsay's blog to check out what she got from me!

Pet Peeves

So I was thinking this week, that I do so many posts about fashion, makeup and music that I don't really do too many posts about me. I talk to a lot of you on twitter so that's how a lot of you know me, but for those of you who only read my blog I thought I'd give you guys a treat. I'm going to try and do this more often so you guys feel like you really, really know me! LOL.

Unfortunately, this post tends to be on the negative side, but I just needed to vent! Hopefully some of you will feel the same way. I don't have many pet peeves, but a few lately have been getting out of control and I felt like I needed to share.

First of all, does anyone know how a parking lot works? Lately, I have been pulling out of parking spots (after looking both ways) and then BAM out of nowhere some car goes whizzing by me! I mean really? You couldn't wait 2 seconds for me to get out of my spot and get on my merry way? Ugh!

I used to work in a hospital and everywhere I went I had to use an elevator. Can I tell you how many times I would go to get off an elevator and be bombarded by people trying to get on the elevator before people got off? Do people not have elevator etiquette? Do you not know how it works? Ok, let me tell you then. When the doors open you wait for everyone to get on and then you enter. Got it? Good. Thank you.

Why is it that when there is one parking spot left in a lot and you go to pull in you realize you're parked next to this guy? First of all, I drive an SUV and I am very courteous of where I park and making sure I fit. Unless you wife is going into labor or your house is on fire, fix your park job! I am not afraid to leave notes on people's cars.

Ok so movies are expensive and I don't know about you, but I LOVE previews. And I can't stand it when people are talking during them! This is probably a common peeve of people, but if it is then why do people STILL insist on talking? It's just super annoying people. Be courteous people.

If you have a dog then that means you have to take care of it which means you have to clean up after it. I have already been out walking my dog and he has decided to take a surprise poop and I was caught with out a bag. I have literally walked my dog back home and walked back with a bag to clean it up! It's not hard! How would you like it if people never flushed the toilet? Not fun is it?

Well that's it for this week's installment! I hope you all enjoyed my rants. I feel much better now. By the way make sure you enter my giveaway and get your posts ready for Monday's link up!! I'm taking off this weekend to Boston to see one of my friends from college! I'll have tons of pictures to show you next week, have a great weekend!

What I'm rocking out to this week...

Well this week I am rocking out to Mumford & Sons, and not just any old song from their last album either. A couple weeks ago, they were in Philly and they played a studio session for one of my favorite radio stations in the city, Radio 1045. Well they debuted a new song that they had NEVER performed before. It doesn't even have a name. It's a toss up between "Ghost" and "Ghosts That We Knew". Let me just say the first time I heard this song, I nearly cried. It's so beautiful, I can't wait until their new album comes out. Have a listen and let me know what you guys think.

Did you like it? Are you a Mumford & Sons fan? What are you rocking out to this week?

Don't forget to enter my giveaway for a chance to win an Eye Kit from DuWop Cosmetics! You have until November 22nd!

The Ultimate Twilight Fan Link Up

Photobucket

I am linking up with Sara from Star's Pink World and Tara from fabulous but evil this week because I could not resist. Most of you who have been following me from the very beginning know that I'm a HUGE Twilight fan and when I saw this link up opportunity I just had to join. Plus I love meeting other fans that are in my age bracket. It's not just a teenage thing you know!!

I only had to answer 5 questions, but I answered them all! I'm such a geek. Enjoy! If you're a Twilight fan, make sure you link up!

1. Are you going to see Breaking Dawn at the midnight release?
Unfortunately no because I have to get up so early for work the next day, plus I don't like seeing the movie when it's super packed because other people tend to ruin for me. You know the ones that are squealing and whistling and talking through the whole thing.

2. Scene you're most looking forward to in Breaking Dawn/Favorite scene in previews movies?
I'm curious to see how they are going to do the "sex" scene (no, not because I'm a perv) because it wasn't graphic in the book or anything, but it was definitely a little risque. I think this one is rated R when the other ones were only PG-13. I also can't wait to see the dramatic change Bella goes through while she's pregnant. I can remember the book being really detailed of how bad she looked and all the terrible things that she was going through. *Update: Thank you for correcting me guys. It is PG-13...boo!

3. Team Edward or Jacob?
Ok, so in the books I'm sooooo Team Edward, but in the movies I'm Team Jacob. My reasoning is detailed in answer number 7.

4. Favorite book in the Saga?
It's a straight tie between Twilight and Breaking Dawn. The first book was so amazing and it's the book that started it all and got me so smitten. Breaking Dawn though is the one where you really see how these people deal with everything going on. I also think it's the book where every character grows exponentially.

5. Favorite character in the series and why?
My favorite character would have to be Dr. Cullen. I'm sure everyone automatically goes to one of the main characters, but I find him the most interesting. He has a deep history and he goes through life rescuing more of his kind that don't want to be killers. On top of that, he uses his gifts to help humans. He is definitely the glue in the Cullen family.

6. Why do you love Twilight?
Let me count the ways....LOL. Honestly, I believe it's just that deep down girly girl inside me that wishes for a whimsical romance that sweeps you off your feet and ends with everyone happily ever after.

7. Are the books or movies better?
BOOKS! I know the movies do get better as you go on, but for some reason these actors that I love in other movies act terribly in this series. I cannot explain it, but there's a sense of corniness when this series was turned into movies. I really do think it's the screen writing because they never changed the woman who was doing it. I mean I love Kristen Stewart in other movies, but she can't portray Bella well. Take New Moon for instance, when she was having nightmares and was screaming in the night, I wanted to pull my hair out. It was so fake, I never felt for one moment that she was upset for not being with Edward anymore. Drives me crazy. And I love Rob Pattinson in plenty of other movies, he's fantastic! As Edward, he's just blah. Sorry if I'm offending anyone. LOL.

8. What do you dislike about the series?
Well I think I just covered it in the last question. As far as the book, I think New Moon was a little over the top. I think Bella was being a little ridiculous. I've been through breakups and I think she was being a big baby after a while.

9. Your craziest fan moment.
After I read the books, I spent months reading EVERY single thing I could online. I was obsessed! That's it though, I didn't camp out for tickets or stalk the stars or anything.

10. Do you have a Twilight collection?
I have all the books including The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner and I'm asking for The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide for Christmas. It's the is the definitive encyclopedic reference for all Twilight fans!
I hope you enjoyed my answers and learned a little more about me! Make sure you link up today with Sara and Tara!

Don't forget to enter my giveaway for a chance to win an Eye Kit from DuWop Cosmetics! You have until November 22nd!

Product Review and a Giveaway!!

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by this wonderful online beauty supply retailer, Beauty of a Site. They carry tons of my favorite brands like Essie, OPI, Tigi and Fusion Beauty. They asked me to pick a product to review and that they would give me a product to giveaway to my wonderful readers as well!

"Beauty of a Site is an online beauty supply retailer dedicated to providing high quality, up and coming, and exclusive products. With over 5000 choices from popular mainstream brands as well as exclusive, hard-to-find boutique lines, Beauty of a Site is proud to provide hand-picked items from the very best the industry has to offer. Offering a personalized shopping experience from the comfort of your home, Beauty of a Site is committed to the very best quality at your utmost convenience. We're continually adding new products and working to keep prices competitive, making your shopping experience our top priority."

I wanted to make sure I picked something that I was not familiar with and had never tried. I followed my obsession with eyeshadows and chose...

DuWop Crush Eye Shadow Trio

Trio in Lava with a burgundy plum, pale champagne rose, & an opulent bronzy gold

I have to say that I really enjoyed this product. The colors in the trio really intrigued me because I don't have many of them in current eyeshadow collection. Now I tried a few different looks and the one I have pictured above turned out the best. I used my Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin and also my fave mascara L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes.

I was really impressed with the burgundy plum and bronzy gold color. They are so vibrant and unlike anything I have. However, the pale champagne rose color was not very impressive. It's more like a brown than a rose and I have a bunch of colors just like it. It showed up really light and I had to apply a lot of it to show up. I thought it was really weird because the other two colors are not that way at all. They are perfect for a night out though, definitely not your everyday colors.

If you buy a lot of your cosmetics online, you have to check out this site. Beauty of a site carries brands that you just can't get everywhere and they are always running shipping specials. Another great thing about them? They are woman owned and operated, which I love! I definitely recommend them.

Now for the part you have all been waiting for, Beauty of a Site is letting me giveaway...

DuWop Crushed Velvet Eye Kit
The kit includes Crush Metallic Shadow, totally smudge-proof black Eyecatcher eyeliner and a mini Lash Venom mascara. Plus it all comes in a travel bag! I'm totally jealous!

So what do you have to do to win all this? Please leave a separate comment for each entry!

Mandatory entry: be a public follower of Everything According to Erin (using Google Friend Connect) AND then head over to Beauty of a Site and tell me what product you would purchase.
