What I spent my Apothica gift card on...

Way back in April, I won a $50 gift card to Apothica from one of my favorite blogs These are a few of Christina's favorite things.... It literally took me this long to decide what to buy because there were so many options, I just couldn't decide! I finally made myself pick something. Here are my purchases, let me know what you guys think!

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Pink Quartz $39

Deborah Lippmann Nail Polish in Across the Universe $18
I am so excited to try the Bobbi Brown shimmer brick because I can use it as a bronzer and as an eyeshadow. I've also been dying to try Deborah Lippmann polish for for.ev.er. I had read in a bunch of reviews that her glitter collection is the best around and with 3 good coats it looks great on it's own. Don't worry guys, you'll see reviews for both of these products! I ended up only going $7 over my gift card and shipping was free, thanks again to Christina and Apothica.com

Fall Movie Preview

Everyone is always excited for the summer blockbuster movies that come out, but everyone forgets that fall is usually just as packed with awesome movies as well. Last week I got a Fandango email with their fall movie preview, so I thought I'd share mine with you guys!

Release Date: September 2nd - This just looks scary so I'm in.
Release Date: September 2nd - I love Helen Mirren and Sam Worthington, but I'm always a huge fan of any movie that has to do with WWII. This one is supposed to be good.
Release Date: September 9th - This movie has an amazing star studded cast and I'm always a sucker for pandemic, virus killing off the whole world type movies even though they give me nightmares!
Release Date: September 23rd - I'm a huge baseball fan and I'm not familiar with this story/book, so I just have to check it out.
Release Date: October 7th - I'll see anything with Ryan Gosling, but there are rumors rumbling that he could be Oscar nominated for this role.
Release Date: October 21st - Scary movie right around Halloween? I'm in.
Release Date: October 21st - I was always a fan of the remake with Charlie Sheen and Kiefer Sutherland in the 90s and I loved The Man in the Iron Mask with Leo. This one looks like it's going to be remade well. Plus it has Orlando Bloom, what more could you ask for?
Release Date: October 28th - I'm not sure if I will actually get to see this in the theaters or if I will wait for DVD, but all the previews I've seen look pretty good.
Release Date: November 4th - Love all the Shrek's, so I know I'm going to end up taking my sister to see this one!
Release Date: November 18th - Duh! Counting down the days! Need I say more?

What are some of the fall movies you're excited to see?

I've hit 100 followers (sirens going off in the background)! So in celebration of this awesome achievement (to be honest, I'm surprised I got past 10) I will be hosting a giveaway next week! I want to set up a Facebook page and decide on a couple options so that's why it will be happening next week. I've got a few ideas up my sleeve that I'm sure EVERYONE will like. Do you wanna hear them? Ok, ok I'll tell you a few thoughts that have crossed my mind.

  • A gift card to Apple (since the iPhone 5 should be coming out soon)
  • To celebrate the new 1969 Premium Jeans from Gap, I'd buy someone a new pair of jeans
  • A box of Dunkin' Donuts new K-Cups
  • An item from one of my favorite Etsy shops
  • The ever elusive Urban Decay Naked Palette
  • Sephora EGift Certificate
So what do you guys think? Any of that sound good?

I also wanted to say thank you to all of my followers that I currently have, especially those that have been there from the beginning. I never thought I could meet such amazing people doing this! You all make it worth it.

Do You Like Me?

So many of my fellow bloggie friends have a Facebook page associated with their blogs. I was thinking it was time to take the plunge for Everything According to Erin. It would be easier for me to really get to talk with all of you and posting links is easier than writing a blog post (if I find deals and what not). So if this is something you would like to see please let me know!

FYI, I'm only 2 followers away from 100 and I want to have a giveaway once I reach it. So spread the word! My next giveaway is going to be awesome!

Warm Toasted Marshmallow S'more Bars

I actually made these months ago, but with everything going on I totally forgot about posting the recipe. I came across this recipe while I was at work using StumbleUpon and I just had to email it to myself to try.

Ingredients:

1 pouch (1 lb 1.5 oz) Betty Crocker® sugar cookie mix
1 cup graham cracker crumbs
1 cup butter or margarine, melted
3 cups milk chocolate chips (18 oz)
4 1/2 cups miniature marshmallows

Heat oven to 375°F. In large bowl, stir together cookie mix and crumbs. Stir in melted butter until soft dough forms. Press into ungreased 13x9-inch pan.

Bake 18 to 20 minutes or until set. Immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over crust. Let stand 3 to 5 minutes or until chocolate begins to melt. Spread chocolate evenly over crust.

Set oven control to broil. Sprinkle marshmallows over melted chocolate. Broil with top 4 to 5 inches from heat 20 to 30 seconds or until marshmallows are toasted. (Watch closely; marshmallows will brown quickly.) Cool 10 minutes. For bars, cut into 6 rows by 4 rows. Serve warm. Store any remaining bars tightly covered.

The feedback I got from this recipe was pretty much a mixed bag. Some people thought it was too crumby, whereas some thought there were just enough crumbs. Some people thought there wasn't enough chocolate, whereas some thought there was too much chocolate. My opinion? For me, it was too crumby. If you're going to keep the amount of sugar cookie mix and graham cracker crumb, you have to add more chocolate. Or...you can just cut down on the amount of mix and/or crumbs. My other issue with this dessert was that it was messy! Didn't matter if it was warm or cooled, it was a pain to serve. Granted it tasted good, but it was really hard to dish out. Also, if you have any left over, it gets super hard and sticky to eat later. I suggest making it for a big party so you know it will all disappear and try to find a happy medium between hot enough to be gooey, but cool enough to serve. Even though it was kind of a pain, it was still yummy and I still recommend it! Enjoy!

Weekend Recap - A DC Birthday

I have two weekends left in VA/DC before we officially move out so you can imagine I've been spending most of my weekends there packing and spending time with friends. This past weekend we went out to celebrate one of my old co-workers birthday's in downtown Arlington at a rooftop bar. We had a blast. It was so nice to hang out with my VA friends and not think about packing (which is very stressful). We ended the night at a diner and didn't get home until the wee hours of the morning (which I hardly do anymore). Here are some of the pictures from the night, enjoy!

Birthday girl love

I look extremely tall in all the pics and that's because I was wearing these...

I forgot to get a picture of the whole outfit, but I finally broke in these shoes I posted about a couple months ago

We ended the weekend at one of our favorite breakfast places with some of our best friends, trying to all get together one last time. I am happy to be home in PA, but I will miss all the wonderful people in VA that I'm leaving behind.

I hope everyone had a fun weekend as well!

Stuffed Jalapenos

My parents grew a crap ton of jalapenos in their garden this year and they all were ready to be picked this weekend. I decided to make an appetizer for them with the left over peppers they decided not to freeze. The original recipe was for a cream cheese based dip with chunks of jalapenos in it that I posted about here. So instead of chopping up the jalapenos to add to the dip, I mixed the rest of the ingredients together and put them inside the jalapeno and baked them. They were amazing.

Ingredients:

10 jalapenos, halved and de-seeded
1 package (8 oz.) cream cheese
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
8 slices of bacon, cooked and chopped

Halve, rinse and de-seed jalapenos. Cook bacon and chop. Soften cream cheese and mix in cheddar cheese and bacon. Fill in jalapenos with dip and put on baking sheet. Bake at 350 for 15-20 min or until dip gets browned. Jalapenos should be crisp, not mushy.

Enjoy!

Victoria's Secret NFL & Collegiate Collection for Fall 2011

Victoria's Secret has released their Fall 2011 collection of their NFL and college wear. If you've followed my blog for a while, you know that I always post their collections for NFL, MLB and college. This season, they have really expanded the choices for each team. However, some of the designs I'm not too thrilled about. My favorite hoodies that I ended up never purchasing for the Phillies and the Eagles have been discontinued and they don't have anything that even looks like them anymore. Honestly, their very first line was the best across all sports. Now they've gotten really trendy, but I still find things that I like every season. Here are some of my faves for the Eagles and PSU.

This hoodie is ok, last year's version was much cuter (see here)

I do really like this scoopneck tee ($26.50)

Baseball Tee($36.50)

This hoodie is similar to last season's and I really like it ($54.50)

Boxer Shorts ($22.50)

Athletic Shorts ($26.50)

Have you ever bought anything from the VS collection? What are some of your team favorites?

Borders Purchases

You have to know by now that Borders is closing it's doors. I had a gift card from my birthday that I wanted to spend so I headed over to the closest store (that hadn't closed down already). I didn't want to wait too long because I knew things would be going quick and I wanted to make sure I got things I really wanted. Plus I didn't want to buy online and have to pay shipping, I knew they weren't going to have any deals going on. So I ended up purchasing 3 books that were on my wish list for $25!

I'm really exited to get started on these books because I've heard such great things about all of them. Have you read them? What did you think?

Movie Review: Captain America: The First Avenger

A couple weeks ago, I went to see Captain America. Much like Thor, I didn't know much about the character. I've seen all the other movies that are tied in the upcoming Avengers movie and liked all of them. Plus, Chris Evans running around half naked can't be all that bad.

All in all I thought it was a good action flick. It had it's corny moments, but I think that was mostly because of the specific time period it took place in and part of the story line as well. I was surprised that a rather unknown Hayley Atwell was chosen for the female lead, but I LOVED seeing Sebastian Stan (who plays Carter Baizen on Gossip Girl). It was also nice to see Tommy Lee Jones, I feel like I haven't seen him in a movie in years!

It's definitely one of the summer blockbusters that you have see, and make sure you stay til the very end so you can catch a sneak peak at the new Avengers movie coming out next year!

Recent Beauty Buys

The other week while I was purchasing my Butter London Nail Lacquer, I picked up a few other things as well. Let me know what you think. Reviews to follow...

E.L.F. Shimmer Palette - I'm already loving this!

Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara - Boy do I have a review for you regarding this product and it is not good!

Ulta Irresistible Eyes Palette - I probably won't do a review on this one. I took a chance since I've had such a bad experience with Ulta eye shadows and I actually wasn't disappointed with this palette.
