The Girl Who Played With Fire Review and A Leaked Movie Trailer

I'm thankful for the much needed pool time I got during this long holiday weekend. I finally finished The Girl Who Played With Fire, and I'm happy it didn't take me as long as the first book took me (somewhere around 3 months). This one only took me a couple short weeks. So far I am really enjoying this series. Granted the first book took a little bit for me to get into, but I was immediately taken in by its sequel.

The focus of this second book surrounds Lisbeth Salander's past and the after effects of the first book. I was pretty glad the author jumped right on into it. Like I said, I had a hard time getting into the first one. Not only are you following the past of this girl, but you are trying to help solve a triple murder in the process. Everything in your brain tells you that Lisbeth is capable of committing such a crime, but you're still missing important information from her past that is the key to solving everything (of course).

Unlike the first one, this book truly ends in a cliffhanger. I'm happy I have the next and final one in the series to start ASAP. I've heard that this last book is a little disappointing, but I'm going to keep my hopes up. What did you think of the second and third books in the series?

Since these books have been international best sellers, they have already made movies about them that have been popular abroad. Finally, they are starting to make them here in the states and I couldn't be more excited. I came across a trailer they (unofficially) released over the weekend. It looks awesome. I'm so excited about Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist, Stellan Skarsgard as Martin Vanger, Robin Wright as Erika Berger and Christopher Plummer as Henrik Vanger. Rooney Mara is cast as Lisbeth Salander. I'm not very familiar with the actress except for her role as Mark Zuckerberg's girlfriend, Erica Albright in The Social Network.

If you haven't see the leaked movie trailer yet, check it out below (it's not the best quality):

What do you think? I'm so excited. I heard it will be out by Christmas.

Random TV News

By now, most of my shows have had their season finales so hello to 4 months of reruns and of course...True Blood.

Anyway, I was preparing to lose a couple shows due to lack of interest and/or it was just their time to go. However, I'm pleasantly surprised that I am only losing one show that I fell in love with this year.

So here's to the end of the 2010-2011 season, I can't wait to see what's in the cards for next season.

Knew It
I was not shocked at all that these shows were picked up for another season. There would have been uprising had they not.

On the fence
This show was down to the wire, they even wrapped up all loose ends for the season finale because they hadn't announced their fate while they were filming. I'm very excited though and I'm going to have to mentally prepare myself for next season being the end of a show that I have watched for almost a decade.

Granted, they only picked it up for 13 episodes and are starting it mid season (which means I have to wait until JANUARY for it). If they would have started it in September they could have added more episodes, but I'm just glad they got their final season. I'm also sure Tim is happy as well, LOL.

Pleasantly surprised
I don't care what anyone says about this show, I absolutely love it. I have also been watching this since the beginning and I was surprised it got picked up for a 7th season last year.

I haven't watched the season finale yet from last week, but I'm very happy this show is still doing well. It was only written to be 5 season and somehow they've kept it going. Tim doesn't even mind it.

This show had so much potential and when it started was doing really well. Unfortunately, when the show went on a winter hiatus for the holidays it just couldn't bounce back. Nobody cared anymore. Tim and I love this show and I just hope they're able to tie up all the loose ends because if they leave a cliff hanger I'm going to be really mad.

Still not sure
Both of these shows started just a couple weeks ago so their fate is not yet determined.

I am not a huge reality show person, but I have fallen in love with this show! In my opinion it kicks American Idols butt!

If you haven't started watching this show, it is a must see. I don't know if this is even able to have more than one season because of the concept, but we'll see what happens.

What are some of the shows you're excited to see next season?

You Go Payless, You Go!

So I was at the mall the other day when I stopped in front of a store to admire a beautiful show display. Much to my surprise, I looked up to see it was Payless! I was very surprised with their selection, they have really stepped up their game. A girlfriend of mine told me that they have some designer brands now like Christian Siriano and I totally forgot to check it out (thanks M). I'm definitely going to have to pick up some of their cute sandals for summer, and the best part is...they're so cheap! Hopefully I'll be able to get a couple pairs in the next few weeks. In the meantime here are a couple of the shoes that caught my eye. Let me know if you feel the same.

These were the beautiful sandals I saw in the window. I want one in EVERY color! Can you believe they're $14.99?

I saw these beauties next. They have them in black, brown, white, green and of course red. They range from $15-$20.

I saw these on their website. They are Christian Siriano for Payless. Hello my name is Erin and I love you. Btw, they're only $59.99

I just thought these wedges were super cute as well, $26.99. Swoon.

OMG! JT, Andy Samberg and Lady Gaga...Oh My!

I didn't actually get to watch SNL on Saturday, but I definitely had see the new SNL short with Justin Timberlake, Andy Samberg and Lady Gaga called "Three-Way". Words can't describe it.

Thank you SNL for adding another favorite to my list along with "D*ck in a Box" and "Mother Lover".

Summer Must Have Purchase: Fedora

I don't know if you guys remember, but I have been on the hunt for a cute fedora since LAST summer! It either didn't look good on me or it was an outrageous price. I just wanted one that was straw (but not see through) and had a plain black stripe on it. I didn't really think it was going to be that hard...

Well finally, almost a year later I got one! Not only does it fit me perfectly, but it was cheap! I found it at Target on a random trip when I was going to get a bunch of toiletries, go figure. I don't have a picture with it on yet, but I'll be sure to post one as soon as I wear it!

Movie Reviews: Something Borrowed and Thor

I love summer movie season! In the last couple of weeks, I went to see Thor and Something Borrowed.

I credit Tim for getting me into all of the comic book movies. I would have never started watching them if it wasn't for him. So of course we had to see Thor as soon as it came out.

For not knowing one thing about the character Thor, you will come away from this movie with a full recap of his story and how he came to be. I thought the movie was great, but Tim said he was a little disappointed and he expected a little more. He figured since Thor isn't as well known as some of the other comics they concentrated more on his story than action and showing his "powers". All I have to say is, as soon as I saw this...
I was hooked! Besides that, I also love, love, love Natalie Portman. It was really nice to see her branch out this year and do movies you don't usually see her in. I've been a fan of her since The Professional way back in the day.

I'm definitely excited to see the sequel to this movie (whenever that may be), but in the meantime I heard an interview with Chris Hemsworth saying that he's already started filming The Avengers. So we may not have to wait another 2 years to see him with his shirt off (always a plus).

After all the testosterone in Thor, I needed some girl time and went to go see Something Borrowed with a couple girlfriends.

I read this book ages ago and I was so excited when I heard it was going to be a movie. I was really happy with the casting. I thought Kate Hudson was PERFECT for this role. I recall even imagining her in that role while I was reading the book. You also can't go wrong with Colin Egglesfield...

Honestly though, besides his good looks he really was perfect for the role. Now obviously there were going to be changes, but I really liked how they had Ethan in New York for most of the movie.
I am a huge John Krasinski fan. I never imagined anyone for Ethan's role, but as soon as I saw him I knew he was perfect for it as well. Unfortunately, I'm still not entirely sold on Ginnifer Goodwin as Rachel. Am I the only one that feels this way? I mean I can't give you an alternative, but for some reason she's not who I pictured. She did a great job and I loved her in it, I just feel like someone could have done a little better that's all. Am I crazy in thinking this?

Anyway, look for a rundown of all the summer blockbusters I'm looking forward to this year. I can't wait!

Product Review: OPI Black Shatter Polish

Last month I included a bottle of OPI Black Shatter Polish in my giveaway and I also got a bottle for myself to try. I finally gave it a shot and documented it for everyone. I used a Celebutante by Ulta as a base color which is a medium purple. I actually had my little sister try it first because I wanted to know what I was doing because I didn't feel like redoing my nails a bunch of times.

My sister ended up using a glitter based color which is why it didn't work well for her, so make sure you use it over a plain color because it dries smooth. We were both getting frustrated so I ended up pulling up a You Tube tutorial to show us how to do it. I felt very pathetic.

Above is the finished product and I am very happy with it. Here are a couple tips from my experience: make sure your base color is completely dry and don't put the top coat on before you apply the shatter, cover the entire nail with shatter so that it's completely black, as it dries it will start to crack (I used a hair dryer to speed up the process and it worked quite well), once you feel the shatter is completely dry cover it with a top coat (it smooths out the rigidness of the shatter).

I have to say that the combination of polishes really lasts. I did my toes almost 3 weeks ago and I don't have one chip on any nail, it's really quite amazing. Usually my feet take a beating from wearing flip flops and heels. It looks like I just did them yesterday. I'm totally a fan of this stuff to spice up a pedicure.

They also just came out with silver shatter. Has anyone tried either of these? Do you like it or do you think it's pointless?

OOTD with Makeup to Match

I showed you my Express haul yesterday, so I wanted to give you an OOTD with one of my new shirts. Not only did I get to rock a cute, new shirt but I got to use a new eyeshadow I've had since Christmas (that I didn't have the guts to wear until now).

Graphic Lace Top from Express

Zelda Crop Jeans in Dark Wash from Express

Flip Flops in Blue from Abercrombie and Fitch

Close up of shirt

A few months ago I asked you guys for help with a bunch of eye shadow palettes I wasn't quite sure what to do with (see post). Luckily a bunch of you came to the rescue. So here is one of the eye shadow quads I've been meaning to try. I'm very impressed with myself that I didn't look like I had a black eye (or looked like a clown). Let me know what you guys think.

This is the Cover Girl Queen collection

Finished product

I got tons of compliments on my makeup, I was so proud of myself. What do you think of my OOTD and matching eye shadow?

Express Shopping Trip

With the weather finally started to warm up, I noticed my spring/summer wardrobe was lacking. I was in desperate need of some short sleeve tops I could wear to work and also wear outside of work. Luckily, my office is very casual so I can mix my work wardrobe with my play wardrobe. It also saves me money which I definitely appreciate.

I knew I wanted to head to Express because it was the last day of their sale and I was very glad I did. I ended up getting four shirts at really great deals. Here's my haul:

Chiffon Smocked Top

Striped Double-V Slub Tee

Ruffled Button Front Tank in purple

Graphic Lace Top

I think I got some really great shirts that can be mixed and matched with jeans and work pants. I'll even have an OOTD with one of these shirts later this week. What do you guys think?
