Easter Recipes

Last Easter, we hosted my family for the weekend and my step-mom cooked a wonderful dinner for us. This year we stayed in VA, and no one visited. So we cooked our first Easter dinner by ourselves and invited our neighbors to join since they stayed home for the holiday as well. Everything turned out so tasty, especially since it was our first time making a ham. I wanted to share the ham recipe with you because it was so flavorful and juicy, Tim did a wonderful job putting it together. I didn't take a picture of it because it looked like just a normal ham, nothing crazy. The taste, however, was amazing!

traditional bone-in butt half ham (we used a boneless, 3.5 lb. ham)
1 can pineapples in heavy syrup
dark brown sugar (to taste)
6oz ginger ale
baking pan

Rinse Ham and place in baking pan. Pour ginger ale over ham. Pin Pineapples to ham with toothpicks. Mix brown sugar with heavy syrup from can of pineapples and pour over the ham. Sprinkle ham with nutmeg and cinnamon (about a Tbs each). Use a spoon to evenly mix the mixture in the bottom of the pan. Cover with foil and bake for approximately 20 minutes per pound.

Last year I found this great recipe for a heart healthy version of deviled eggs. I'd like to share that with you guys again since I have a lot more followers then I had last year. You can see my original post here. Below are some pics of the eggs and the recipe. Enjoy!

The normal one was for Tim, he hates avocado.

1 dozen hard boiled eggs
2 avocados, peeled and pitted
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 stalk green onion, minced
1 tablespoon jalapeno pepper, seeds removed, minced (optional)
2 teaspoons lime juice
1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
chili powder

1. Peel hard boiled eggs and slice in half lengthwise. Remove the yolks and discard (or save for another recipe).
2. In a small bowl mash the avocados. Add the garlic, onion, jalapeno, lime juice and salt. Mix well to combine.
3. Fill the empty egg white halves with about two teaspoons of the avocado mixture. Sprinkle with chili powder and chill until serving.

What are some of your favorite Easter recipes?

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Review

It only took me forever and a day, but I finally finished Stieg Larsson's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I was on a role with books for a while...and then I got a new job and everything fell to pieces. I have vowed never to take this long to read a book ever in my life (unless the book stinks).

Well this book definitely did not stink. It may have started out slow, but stink is not a word I would use. I'm finally starting to understand the obsession with this series now that I finished this one and have started the second one (The Girl Who Played With Fire).

I admit, until things started to unravel in the "Harriet Vanger" case, I was wondering how long into the book I was going to get before something happened. Now I'm usually good at predicting where things are going to go, but this book had me guessing. I was really impressed how (almost) everything tied back to each other, I was wondering how that was going to happen. Plus I am a sucker for good old revenge and vengeance. I hate when people don't get what's owed to them in books, it bothers me.

Now that I'm already a pretty good bit into the next book, I'm glad to see some more background information that was left out of Dragon Tattoo. I'm dying to know the story behind one of the main characters, Lisbeth Salander.

I feel like I'm the last person on Earth who hasn't read all the books, so if there's anyone out there who is looking for a new series to get into I highly recommend this one. The only con to the books is that it's been translated from Swedish so certain words left me scratching my head. I was definitely confused when there was mention of places in Sweden, holidays they celebrated and even some of the country's celebrities made me turn to Google for answers. Other than that, it's a captivating book that can run slow at times, but will not let you down in the end.

If you have read the series, which book is your fave? What can you tell me (without giving anything away of course) about the second book?

It took 3 stores, but I found the Old Navy dress!

Sorry I've was MIA last week guys. I had a very long week at work and I spent my evenings either relaxing or watching the Philadelphia Flyers (their in the playoffs).

Anyway, the other week I posted about an Old Navy maxi dress that I was dying to buy. For some reason, they were nowhere to be found here in VA. I even had a friend find one for me in PA (where they had tons of course), but I ended up finally finding one at the store near my work.

What do you guys think? I wore it on Saturday to go out to dinner because it was beautiful outside. It's one of my new favorite outfits for the spring/summer.

Old Navy, you better come through!

Check out dress #2, the white one with grey and gold. I have been lusting after it ever since I saw this commercial. I went online to order it since I haven't had a chance to go to the mall and it's not there! Neither are half of the dresses in this commercial. So this weekend you bet your booty I'm heading down to Old Navy and they better have that dress there! Every time I see the commercial I'm like "there's my dress!" Tim wants to kill me. They say the dresses start at $15 so I'm super excited to get it. I love maxi dresses and I can't wait to add a couple to my summer wardrobe this year. What are some of your favorite maxi dresses this season?

Weekend Recap

Whew! What a weekend! We spent 4 wonderful days up in Pennsylvania celebrating 2 birthdays and a wedding. We left Virginia late Thursday night so we could have at least 3 full days up there to do everything. Friday night I celebrated my best friend Erin's birthday (yes, I have a best friend named Erin) with my 3 closest friends in the world and Erin's stepsister Jenelle. We went to a Hibachi restaurant and just enjoyed being together. Since I live far away the 4 of us are hardly all together unless it's a holiday or we plan something.

We told the waitress it was her birthday and she had to wear that silly hat, got a huge dessert, a mug and a picture with all of us. It was a good time.

On Saturday, we had the rehearsal dinner to go to. The food was great and the bridesmaids received some really cute gifts from the bride. I also got to spend some much needed time with our nephew as you can see below.

My favorite picture of the day.

Here are the wonderful gifts Grace gave us to thank us for being there on her special day:

We got these cute matching purses to go with our dresses along with a beautiful necklace and earring set to wear for the wedding.

Here's a close up of the earrings. I absolutely love the necklace, it's part of my everyday jewelry now.

Saturday night we celebrated my step mom's birthday (sorry, no pictures) and then just relaxed in preparation for the big day on Sunday.

For those of you who gave me their input on my post about what to choose for my hairstyle, thank you so much! I brought my choices to my hairstylist and she chose this one:

She chose this hairstyle because I needed my hair to stay for a long time and also be out of my face so I wouldn't touch it.

Here's how it turned out, she did something a little different with the back. Let me know how you like it.

Finally, here are some pictures from the wedding!

Tim and his brother walking their mom down the aisle. Doesn't she look great? Her dress was awesome!

Our turn down the aisle.

Their first dance.

Yes, Tim caught the garter. I ran from the bouquet.

And then Steph got put the garter on Tim!

So that was our weekend! We had so much fun celebrating with friends and family and getting to see Grace and Tim get married.

How was your weekend?

Current Playlist Volume 7

I can't believe it's been six months since my last Current Playlist post, I'm so ashamed of myself. I don't know about you guys, but music is so important to me. If anything ever happened to my iPod it would be the end of me I swear. All day at work everyone in my office listens to music, so I'm constantly updating my playlists so I have enough to last me a whole work week without getting sick of certain songs. The music that has come out lately has been awesome, so I have a lot to share with you guys. I'm not going to go into detail about every song like I usually do because I have a lot to share and I don't want to bore you! Enjoy!

The Naked and Famous - Young Blood
Katy Perry feat. Kanye West - E.T.

* Some of the lines in this song weird me out, but I still like it.
Young the Giant - My Body
LMFAO feat. Lauren Bennett - Party Rock Anthem
A Silent Film - Driven By A Beating Heart
Drake feat. Alicia Keys - Fireworks

* This is my new favorite slow jam.
Drake feat. Young Jeezy - Unforgettable
Kanye West feat. Rihanna - All of the Lights
Lupe Fiasco feat. John Legend - Never Forget You
Lupe fiasco feat. Trey Songz - Out of My Head
Jeremih & 50 Cent - Down On Me
Chris Brown feat. Big Sean & Timbaland - Paper, Scissors, Rock
T-Pain feat. Chris Brown - Best Love Song
Chris Brown feat. Benny Benassi - Beautiful People

* I am so impressed with Chris' album and this song is my favorite one on it, if you like dance music this is the song for you.
Lupe Fiasco feat. Eric Turner & Sway - Break the Chain
Chris Brown feat. Justin Bieber - Next To You
Lupe Fiasco feat. Skylar Grey - Words I Never Said
Wiz Khalifa - When I'm Gone
Kings of Leon - Pyro
Arcade Fire - We Used to Wait
Ke$ha - Blow

So this was mostly my pop/dance playlist, but that's what I have been downloading the most lately. A couple albums I've been a huge fan of: Femme Fatale - Britney Spears, 21 - Adele, Lasers - Lupe Fiasco, and F.A.M.E. - Chris Brown.

Upcoming albums I'm very excited for: No Devolucion - Thursday, Augustana - Augustana, Down For Yall - B.o.B., and Codes And Keys - Death Cab for Cutie.

What are you guys listening to right now and what are you looking forward to?

New Love: Animal Print Flats

A month ago I saw a pair of Cheetah print flats at Target by Mossimo (above) which I fell in love with. I meant to get them since they were so cheap, but I got sidetracked of course. Well I went to buy them with my Target gift card this week and now they're out of stock!

Can you guys recommend a reasonably priced pair of cheetah/leopard print flats? All I've been able to find so far is a pair of Tory Burch flats and I can't afford them.

I trust that my awesome blog followers will help me with this like they always do! Thanks guys, you're the best!

Living Room Makeover

A couple months ago I asked you guys whether we should go on vacation or buy a new couch (post here). Everyone said vaca, but with my brand new job I can't take all that much time off right now so we opted for new furniture. We haven't completely ruled out a vaca though so don't worry.

We had been looking at a sectional at Ashley Furniture for months. The weekend we decided to buy the set, they were having an awesome President's Day Sale so we really lucked out.

The week we got our new furniture we also got a new back door and new carpeting so it was a really busy week. Our downstairs looks awesome and our new couches are so comfy! Here are the before and after pictures (we currently rent and have no control over the wall color, don't judge us!):

Logan Sectional in Stone and Ottoman

We kept our end table even though we weren't planning to, but it fit perfectly. We also kept the red pillows and blanket from our old couch to accent this one.

We got 2 of these lamps from Bed Bath & Beyond which gave us a lot of light for the room

Eventually we want to get an area rug to protect the carpet in such a high traffic area and Tim found this set 3 rugs from Walmart for $50. I'm not sold on the pattern yet, but I love that it comes with a runner that we can use at the back door. The dogs can track in a lot of dirt back there.

So what do you guys think? We absolutely love it. Tim and I constantly fight over the chaise part of the couch, it's so comfy! We just want to thank Tim's parents for giving us our old couches. When we moved here we didn't have anything and it was really nice of them to give them to us and buy us nice slip covers for them. Two years later it was time to get something of our own though. Thanks Mr. & Mrs. F!
