N.L. East Champs...4th Straight!

Congratulations to the Phillies who last night clinched their 4th consecutive N.L. East Division title. The game was here in DC because they were playing the Nationals, it's a shame we weren't there. So excited for post season baseball! I already had an email this morning from the team trying to get everyone to buy stuff with the 2010 Division Champs logo on it. I prefer to wait until we win the NL and the World Series to buy stuff!

Designer Jeans Deal

For a while now Sam's Club has been carrying some designer brands (say what?). They carry at least 2 styles of Rock & Republic jeans and about different designs of men's Affliction shirts for much cheaper than they are anywhere else. Tim got one of the Affliction shirts for $25! Well I have been dying to get a pair of jeans for months now and every time I go I grab a pair and never buy them. Jeans aren't really a major need for me right now, but if I find a great deal I can't pass it up. Well last weekend when I took my normal route to check out the jeans I saw that they weren't the normal $60 (uh which is still a deal and a half), but they were $26!!!! And if the two styles that had were a little more different I would have bought 2 pairs! I'm so excited. However, I am definitely going to have to get them altered as do most people who buy designer jeans since the length is always so too long. Here are the pics of the pair I bought and how ridiculously long they are on me. I have 4 pairs that I have to take to the tailor anyway, what's one more.

Forgive my toes I took this before I gave myself a pedicure.

This is how ridiculously long these are, they completely cover my toes and I even tried them on with my tallest heels...still looked ridiculous.

A New Addition to Our Family

This weekend Tim & I adopted a puppy. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now that I'm sleep deprived and exhausted from chasing her around...just kidding. We absolutely love her. It's tough getting used to having a puppy again, but once she's trained I know it will get a little easier. She was in a foster home along with 7 of her brothers and sisters. The puppies were turned in by a woman who's dog was pregnant. They are Saint Bernard/Collie mixes. She was not the biggest of the litter, but her paws are massive so we're not really sure how big she will get. We drove to meet her foster mom in Raleigh, NC on Saturday and she did very well on the drive home. Dakota is doing very well with her. He's very patient, but he does get a little jealous. We have been trying to do a good job of making sure he gets just as much attention although it can be hard when every one wants to see her and we're constantly chasing after her. Her name is Utley after my favorite Phillies player and it actually suits her. We've taken some really great photos the last couple of days so I thought I'd show you all a few.

Hellllooooo Fall!

I know it depends on what calendar you're looking at, so yesterday or today is the first day of fall. Well here in the DC area, it brought us a 90 degree heat wave! WTF?! We've had the windows open for the last few weeks and it's been beautiful. I was so disappointed to turn the air back on yesterday. Hopefully this will not last. Even though my heart truly belongs to summer, fall fills me with such excitement! I love the colors and the smells that surround fall among other things like Halloween, fall foods and Oktoberfests. And out of all my wardrobes, my fall one is the best hands down. I can't wait to break out my boots and sweaters! Along with fall also comes football and baseball postseason which I am always excited for. Tomorrow make sure you look out for an outfit post. I've been doing some fall shopping and I have a lot to share with you. However, today's second post is just so I can announce that my favorite seasonal Starbucks drink is back. No, it's not pumpkin spice latte that everybody else wants...it's the Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate! I fell in love with it 2 years ago and then they didn't bring it back last year, I almost cried. Well they heard our disappointment and brought it back. I can't wait to get one this weekend. This is Starbucks' description:

"Hot chocolate with mocha sauce and toffee nut syrup, topped with sweetened whipped cream, a caramel drizzle and sprinkled with our sea salt and Hawaiian Turbinado sugar topping."

Mmmmmmmmmmm! What do you guys love about fall?

Top Tailgating Recipes

The other day the Penn State page on facebook posted it's top tailgating recipes listed by past and current students. A couple of them caught my eye that I'm definitely adding to my recipe book. I'll probably even make a few for the PSU vs. Indiana game on November 20th at Fed Ex field that I'm going to. Since we're a couple weeks into football season and it's starting to get a little chilly out there I thought I'd share my faves with you to make at your own tailgate. Enjoy!

Six Layer Taco Dip

1st layer - spreadable cream cheese, spread over round plate
2nd layer - hot taco sauce, pour over cream cheese
3rd layer - baby cooked shrimp, sprinkle over sauce
4th layer - shredded sharp or mexican cheese
5th layer - sliced black olives
6th layer - chopped green pepper

Serve with Doritos.
*This sounded delicious, but I feel like it's too heavy a dip for the chips so I might re-vamp this one a bit.

Penn State Blue Velvet Cupcakes

2 1/2 cups white, unbleached flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 tsp. Dutch Process cocoa powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup buttermilk (room temperature)
1 1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 tsp. white vinegar
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
2 large eggs
1 oz. blue food coloring

Preheat oven to 350. Line 2 12-cup cupcake tins with liners. Sift dry ingredients together in large bowl and set aside. In another large bowl, mix wet ingredients well on medium speed. Slowly add dry ingredients to wet. Mix for approximately 2 minutes, scraping the sides of the bowl as necessary. Fill cupcake pans 2/3 full with batter. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Remove cupcakes from oven and cool completely on wire racks.

White-Out Cream Cheese Frosting

1 8 oz. pkg of cream cheese, softened
1 stick (1/2 cup) of unsalted butter, softened (do not melt)
1 tsp. vanilla extract
3 1/2 cups of sifted confectioner's sugar

Blend cream cheese, butter and vanilla together with mixer. Slowly add sifted confectioner's sugar. Blend well for approximately 3 minutes until fluffy.

Decorating:
Using a piping bag or Ziploc bag, cut the tip of the bag with scissors, pipe frosting on cooled cupcakes. Add blue sprinkles or blue sugar.

Jalapeno Cheese & Bacon Dip

Tim & I went to a friends housewarming party this weekend and I was bringing a lot of pre-made things, but I wanted to actually make something as well. My lovely mother when she was visiting last weekend brought me all kinds of stuff from Costco that I couldn't eat all by myself (without gaining 40 pounds). I was very happy to share all the goodies with our friends. So on top of the spinach dip in a bread bowl and guacamole I decided to make the jalapeno dip for a couple of reasons. One, I had 2 jalapenos in my fridge that I had to use or they were going to go bad and I was very curious as to how this would turn out. I thank my girlfriend Lara and her husband Blair for this fantastic recipe that started out as a stuffer for jalapeno peppers. Apparently they had extra left over and that's how they got this idea.

Picture is before dip is put in oven

1 pkg. cream cheese, softened
1 cup shredded cheese (I used a mexican mix)
4 jalapenos, chopped
4 slices of bacon, chopped

Directions:
De-seed (is that a word?) jalapenos and put in food processor. Cook bacon and do the same. Combine all ingredients and put into 9 in. pie plate. Bake for 10 minutes at 350.

If you want to make this as a stuffer just de-seed jalapenos and cut length wise down the middle. Stuff mixture into pepper and bake on cookie sheet (same time and temperature).

An UGG Dilemma

I need everyone's help! Last week I found a pair of UGG Argyle Knit boots that I have wanted since last year for $90 (original retail is $140). I was super excited. I got them from a ski shop out in California that was trying to get rid of the last few pairs it had. Luckily they had them in my size and the color (charcoal) I wanted (or so I thought). So when I got them, I took them out of the box and noticed they were brown! I know most of you are saying, "who cares? they were $90!" However, my dilemma is because I already have a pair of UGG Classic Tall boots in brown. It's my own fault. The picture of the boots was charcoal, but I clearly picked stout because that was the only color available in my size. I was so excited I found them so cheap I never even thought about it. I love them though, they're so comfy. I have pictures below of both boots side by side.

This is what I wanted

This is what I got

Here's the comparison between what I have. Let me know what you guys think!

Are they too similar? Should I return them and just ask for the charcoal ones for Christmas? See my dilemma?

Salmon with a Cucumber Yogurt and Homemade Sweet Potato Chips

Sorry I've been a little MIA these last couple of weeks. I've had a lot going on with my accident, doctor's appointments and just a lot of running around trying to get to specialists and picking up prescriptions. Not fun stuff believe. Work has also been a little nuts so I haven't had the extra time to post during my lunch breaks, but more importantly I haven't had that much to talk about! Well I have probably a week and a half worth of stuff for you guys so don't you worry!

Last week Tim and I took a trip to our local Gran Mart to get seafood. We usually get our seafood there because it is always fresh and is reasonably priced. They still put the fish out on ice for you to hand pick yourself. It's always quite an experience when we go there. We ended up getting a bunch of salmon and tuna fillets. Last week I cooked up the salmon with a new recipe I found randomly on the internet.

I cooked the salmon for 30 minutes at 400 degrees plain. All I added was a touch of butter to the top to prevent the fish from drying out.

Cucumber Yogurt Sauce
1 cup nonfat plain yogurt
1 cup cucumber, diced
2 tsp. fresh dill or 1 tsp. dried
2 tsp. lemon juice
salt & pepper to taste

Cinnamon Sweet Potato Chips
cut potato into 1/4 in. thick slices
spread on baking sheet
mist with 2 sprays olive oil (both sides)
sprinkle with cinnamon (both sides)
bake 400 degrees for 30-40 min.

*Bake time depends on the width of the chips. Mine were a little on the thicker side so after we ate some off them, I let them sit out on a paper towel over night let them dry out some more. Sometimes baking them longer will only burn them instead of dry them out.

Ok ladies here is a great contest from Shop It To Me that could win you a designer bag of your choice. It's super easy and will take 5 minutes I promise.

If you are unfamiliar with Shop It To Me, it is an online personal shopper. You just tell them your favorite designers and sizes and they scour the Web to find the items you love and send you personalized e-mail alerts that feature the latest markdowns, secret promotion codes, and VIP sale events.

So I got this email that is valid until tomorrow only. All you have to do is send the email to your friends and every invite counts as an entry as long as the invited then sign up for the service (which is free by the way).

If you want an invitation just email me at erinsworld09@gmail.com and I'll send the invitation over ASAP since the contest ends tomorrow. The purses are super cute, I have my eye on the Tory Burch Louisa Hobo.

Are You Ready For Some Football???!!!

I am a huge baseball fan, but I always get excited for the start of football season. I currently need to take my mind off the fact that my Phils are only leading the NL East by a half a game over the Braves with less than a month of the regular season to go.

I know I'm a week late for college, but last week PSU beat the crap out of Youngstown State and I wasn't going to waste my time with that (no offense to anyone who goes there). Tim also starts his fantasy league tonight so there is going to be a lot of football in my future. So here's what's in my future this weekend starting tonight:

Thursday night football presents the NFC Championship rematch:

I'll probably watch some of this game just because it's the NFL kickoff game, but honestly I couldn't care about either team. Tim unfortunately has a few fantasy picks to look out for. I'm going to miss the first hour anyway. I'll be upstairs anxiously watching the season premiere of The Vampire Diaries...duh. Tim said I'll have to DVR it so he can watch it later. I have him addicted too.

Saturday is the big game night for me. It's PSU vs. #1 Alabama and I've been nervous all week. My mom and step dad are in town so I'm not sure where I'll be watching the game currently, I just know I'll be somewhere.

Finally, on Sunday the Eagles make their debut against the Packers at home. We'll see if this is going to be a good season for the birds. With Kevin Kolb as the new QB, anything can happen.

Honorable mention...
Last week my Alma mater Temple defeated Villanova to win the Mayor's cup. If you don't know Temple football has been a joke for a very long time and then finally last year they started becoming something to talk about. Nova is always a huge rival of Temple in any sport because they share the same city. Last year was the first winning season since 1990 and the first appearance at a bowl game since 1979. You have to give total credit to head coach Al Golden (who just happened to learn everything he knows from Joe Paterno). Beating Nova was huge since they are the AA champs from last year, it means a lot. Good luck Owls! What a great way to start off the 2010 season.

Are you guys ready for football season? Well even if you're not, make sure you guys are ready for some good appetizer recipes coming your way this year.

2010 Fall TV Lineup

Today is September 1st and you know what that means! It's almost time for TV's fall lineup to begin. Thank goodness I had True Blood all summer to tide me over, I have been counting down to the start of some of my fave shows like The Vampire Diaries and One Tree Hill. I also have a few new shows I'm adding to my list that hopefully you guys are interested in as well!

I'll start things off with my guilty pleasure network, the CW. I can't help but love almost every show on here. This year they are introducing new shows and moving all my other shows around. It's going to take some getting used to.

The Vampire Diaries premieres September 9th @ 8 and I can't wait! Last season we left off with the crazy Kathryn in town pretending to be Elena where she kissed Damon and killed Uncle John. The last 5 minutes of that episode drove me crazy! From what I've read, this season will concentrate on the Lockwood's family secret and what exactly Tyler is. If you have not gotten into this show, I highly suggest it! The complete first season was released yesterday on DVD. I found it on Amazon for $37.99 if you're interested.

Gossip Girl premieres September 13th @ 9 with hopefully some sort of conclusion to one of the craziest cliffhangers the show had. Chuck left for dead in some alley and they stole the ring he was going to give to Blair? Oh no! Personally, this whole Georgina pregnant by Dan thing just cannot be true. Georgina annoys the crap outta me. I hope she isn't on the show very long this season. Plus, is Billy Baldwin going to come back to play a role as Serena's father? You can purchase season 3 on DVD at Amazon for $36.99, it was released August 24th. By the way, totally love The *itch is Back promo poster I found.

One Tree Hill premieres September 14th @ 8 which is a new night for the series. I'm so used to having OTH and GG back to back on Mondays. This is going to throw my whole week off. I have been watching this show since the start. I was surprised at how well the show did last season losing Hilarie Burton and Chad Michael Murray, and I posted a couple weeks ago about Bethany Joy Galeotti maybe leaving midway through this season. Even if that doesn't happen I expect this to be it's last season. I just hope they end it with Hilarie and Chad making a guest appearance and everything in Tree Hill, NC being normal for once. We'll see about that though. Last season they left us hanging when crazy Katie shot Clay and Quinn right before the show faded to black. I believe I was home alone screaming, "Oh my god!" Because at that time they still hadn't been picked up for the 8th season so everyone was wondering how the finale would end. You can't leave your viewers like that, so I assumed it got picked up and I was right. I'm excited for this show, but at the same time I'm also ready for it to be over. Season 7 DVD can be found on Amazon for $36.99, it was released August 17th.

Supernatural premieres September 24th @ 9 and I'm not sure what to expect honestly. First of all they moved it to Friday following Smallville so most likely I'll be DVRing it. It used to follow The Vampire Diaries on Thursday nights which was nice, so most likely I'll just end up watching it some other time during the week. Anyway, what a crazy ending to season 5! This was another show that was on the chopping block because it hadn't secured it's 2 main stars after 5 seasons. To be honest I can't believe they've gone this long. The original story line from season 1 has grown so much it's crazy to think back that far. I have no idea where they are going to go with this season either considering where it left off. Sam had been possessed by Lucifer and Adam (the Winchester's half-brother) had been possessed by Michael. Sam somehow breaks free for a minute and tumbles the two of them into a giant hole that I suspect to be hell only to see Sam staring at Dean from outside the home where he's decided to start his new life. What? Once again, I'm excited to see what they do with that as well. I believe this will be it's last season as well because the creator only had a 5 year plan for the show, but the network ordered more. Loving the new promo poster I found for season 6 of Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki.

The Event premieres September 20th @ 9 on NBC and is supposed to be the new Lost. Since I have just started watching Lost, I don't want to be the one person who doesn't watch The Event. So I'll give it a shot. I'll have to DVR it since GG is on at the same time, but I'll give it a whirl. It looks pretty good. If you get a chance check out the promo on You Tube. Here is the shows premise:

"The Event is an emotional high-octane conspiracy thriller that follows Sean Walker (Jason Ritter, "The Class"), an Everyman who investigates the mysterious disappearance of his fiancee, Leila (Sarah Roemer, "Disturbia"), and unwittingly begins to expose the biggest cover-up in U.S. history. Sean's quest will send ripples through the lives of an eclectic band of strangers, including: newly elected U.S. President Martinez (Blair Underwood, "Dirty Sexy Money"); Sophia (Emmy Award nominee Laura Innes, "ER"), who is the leader of a mysterious group of detainees; and Sean's shadowy father-in-law (Scott Patterson, "Gilmore Girls"). Their futures are on a collision course in a global conspiracy that could ultimately change the fate of mankind."

Boardwalk Empire premieres September 19th on HBO
I can't wait for the premiere of this show. Anything directed by Martin Scorsese is a winner in my book. The show chronicles the life and times of Nucky Thompson, the undisputed ruler of Atlantic City, who was equal parts politician and gangster.

What are some of the shows you're looking forward to this fall?
