Favorite Halloween Movies

They sure don't make scary movies like they used to. I'm one of those people who loves being scared, but then I'll complain when I have nightmares for weeks. I think it's the thrill that I enjoy the most. In the last few years the caliber of scary movies has been pretty pathetic. I'm a sucker for originals, however some remakes have proven to be just as good.

Most of these movies were watched with my girlfriend Anylise when we were in high school. We used to spend our weekends at her Dad's house which was a super creepy and old house. We'd end up renting a scary movie, getting too freaked out and never finishing it because we got too scared. Even though we'd get so scared and sometimes sleep completely under our sleeping bags, it was something we always did. Later in life I eventually saw the endings of them.

Here is my list of favorite scary movies (in no particular order). What are some of yours?

Happy Halloween everyone!!

Inspired By...Boardwalk Empire

Not only do I love the show, Boardwalk Empire, but I love the "look" of the time period it takes place during. There are a few times throughout history that I would have loved to live in for a number of reasons. The 20s and 30s are on that list. If you watch the show weekly, then you already know what a great job the costume designer has done on set. Even if you didn't have that much money back then, the clothes were beautiful and conservative. People got dressed up to go everywhere. In Atlantic City people were flashy, but you also had a sense of the working class and of course it was on the beach. This mix that went on there is portrayed well on the show and by how they dress. Here are some of my faves, but since the show is relatively new I had a hard time finding a lot of the outfits I wanted to show you. Is this a time period that interests you?

The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook

"From Cauldron Cakes to Knickerbocker Glory-More Than 150 Magical Recipes for Wizards and Non-Wizards Alike"

As most of you know, I have been reading all the Harry Potter books in a row to gear up for the final movie coming out. I'm currently halfway through the 5th book, with two more to go I'm confident I'll finish them before part 1 of the final movie comes out November 19th. They eat a lot throughout the books. Whether they're sitting in the Great Hall having dinner, making a trip down to Hogsmeade on a Saturday or visiting the Burrow during the holidays it seems the interesting food described has become it's own character throughout the books. Unfortunately, this is an unofficial cookbook and not approved by J.K. Rowling herself, but it will do for now. I honestly can't believe they hadn't come up with this prior to Dinah Bucholz's publishing her own take on the mysterious wizarding world cuisine. Somethings to note if you are interested in purchasing this cookbook, Bucholz wanted to make sure she catered to the American taste without offending the British roots where the food has come from. Also, the recipes are child appropriate so if you're looking for Aunt Petunia's Fruitcake with brandy (the traditional way), you can go to the book's website to find the traditional recipes for all modified ones. There is no Butterbeer recipe included (big frown), but you will find things like Treacle Tarts, Pumpkin Pasties, Molly’s Meat Pies and Kreacher’s French Onion Soup.

This might make its way on to my Christmas list. Thanks to my friend Julie for finding this!

My Favorite Fall Accessory

Last year for Christmas my grandmother got me this awesome motorcycle style jacket from a "New York" style boutique near my parents house. I fell in love with this jacket immediately and wear it as much as I can until it gets too cold. So I decided to use my Polyvore account to show you guys a few styles that I wear that jacket with. Since the jacket it from a small boutique, I couldn't find the exact one to use so I found one that looks just like it. When I get a chance this week I'll upload a picture of the me in one of the outfits and the jacket. Sorry guys my week is filled with being stressed out about my Phillies. What can I say, I'm a die hard fan. Anyway, here are a few outfits I put together. I didn't use anything that was ridiculously expensive because I wanted you guys to see it was feasible to put things like this together without breaking the bank. Let me know what you think!

Sound That Will Knock My Socks Off & the PlayStation Move

This weekend we got a new Sony Bravia surround sound to compliment our awesome flat screen TV we have. We've been wanting to get this for a while, but have always opted for other things like a PS3 or a new vacuum cleaner instead. We belong to the rewards program at Best Buy and have a credit card through them that makes it really hard to buy things anywhere else. We get 0% APR, great deals and gift cards towards purchases. We get everything for a steal. For some reason the sound we get out of our TV when we're watching cable is very low and we've been wanting to upgrade. Hopefully Tim will get this set up sometime this week so I can watch the rest of the Phillies games cranked up!

Instead of a Wii we decided to get the PlayStation move that has been raved about by everyone. I've played the Wii and let me tell you, this thing is awesome. I recommend it to anyone. Our neighbors got it too so we just share remotes and travel between houses. It's very fun. Does anyone else have this? What do you guys think?

Quick Pierogi Casserole

Last night I made a quick new recipe that I have been wanting to try. Now normally I love the homemade pierogies I get when I'm at home, but since I can't get them all the time I settle for eating Mrs. T's. Of course I wanted to share this with you guys, I always do! This recipe is also located on the back of the box, fyi. Enjoy!

Right out of the oven!

The casserole is on the right. When I made this our neighbors brought a dinner down with them (stuffed peppers) and we all just split everything. It was all so delicious!

1 box Mrs. T's full size pierogies
sliced pepperoni
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can tomato sauce
1 green pepper, diced
shredded mozzarella cheese

Layer all ingredients in a 9x13 pan, covering with cheese. Bake in over at 350 for 30-40 minutes.

Bieber Inspired Nail Polish, Looks of the Week, Breaking Dawn Cast & More!

Nicole by OPI has contracted none other than teen queen (yes I said queen, and I meant it too)Justin Bieber to create a line of nail polishes. I don't know about you, but OPI has completely lost respect. There will be six shades: One Less Lonely Glitter (pale purple), Prized Possession Purple (grape), Give Me The First Dance (silver), Me + Blue (metallic blue), O.M.B! (metallic red) and Step 2 the Beat of My Heart (heart shaped specks). Click here to read the whole article while I go throw up because I'm so disgusted.

I came across this great photo gallery from StyleList that you must check out. They have celeb Looks of the Day and the most recent was the beautiful Sophia Loren looking stunning in a pencil skirt and blazer. If you go through the photo gallery you will some really great looks from some of my fave celebs over the last couple weeks. Some of my faves...Jennifer Hudson looking amazing in a purple Michael Kors dress, Minnie Driver was stunning in a layered minidress, and even though she annoys the crap out of me Katie Holmes looked very classy in head to to Calvin Klein. You can check out the gallery here.

Wanna know about all the recent cast hires for Breaking Dawn? Here's a great article with pictures of the actors playing clans and covens involved in the movie. I only recognize one actor, but let me know what you guys think. Is this what you pictured in your head when you were reading the book?
Has anyone seen this movie? Tim and I have a Regal card and the last time we went to see a movie we earned enough points to get a free movie ticket. Well of course I put it somewhere and forgot about it. I found it this week and realized it expires on Tuesday so I'm going to try and drag Tim to go see this with me in between all the baseball watching we'll be doing. Most of my weekend will be dedicated to watch the Phils battle the San Francisco Giants in the NLCS.

New fave song that you all should check out if you haven't, Taio Cruz feat. Ke$ha - Dirty Picture. Loooooooovvvvvveeee it!

Ok that's my random news for the week! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Breaking Dawn Update!

Just when I was starting to get a little antsy with the lack of Breaking Dawn news, I saw this article on Yahoo yesterday (actually, Tim found it). Director Bill Condon has cast 9 year old actress Mackenzie Foy to play the ever interesting role of Renesmee Cullen. It is rumored that Condon will use effects similar to what was used in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in order make Renesmee grow at such a fast rate. The article says she grows to be 17 in a matter of 7 years. I'll have to look into that. I don't remember her getting that old. Do you guys? I need to re-read the series. Anyway, this is great news! I can't believe we have to wait until next November! At least I have Harry Potter in the mean time.
She's adorable. I can totally picture her as Bella & Edward's child.

Chanel's Holiday Trio Nail Color

Chanel released their Holiday 2010 collection featuring 3 fabulous colors out of retirement: plum Rouge Noir, red Coromandel, and shimmery Gold Lame. I would love to just run out and get them, but I absolutely cannot justify spending $66 on nail polish. Oh maybe one day I'll be able to afford such luxuries without making Tim say, "You spent how much on what?" So I did some hunting around and I found some cheaper alternatives that should satisfy every body's budget.
China Glaze Skate Night - $7

OPI Curry Up Don't Be Late - $8

Revlon Red - $5

Do you have any alternatives for the Chanel collection? What are your favorite holiday colors to decorate your nails with?
Here are a couple other holiday sets for 2010:
