Current Playlist Volume 2

Ok guys I have your next installment of my current playlist and artist spotlight. Last week I left you with some oldies but goodies and I introduced you to some great new music. This week I have much of the same to bring you so enjoy!

Lady Gaga - Paparazzi
*Yes Poker Face is probably the most played out song on the radio right now, but every single she releases I immediately fall in love with. The video for this song is really great too, it stars Alexander Skarsgard who plays Eric on True Blood.
David Guetta feat. Kid Cudi - Memories
*If you haven't heard David Guetta's new album, One Love, go listen to it right now on iTunes. Even if you're not a huge dance/techno fan, I guarantee you'll get into a few songs. He has collaborations with Akon, Kelly Rowland, Estelle, & Will.i.am. on it and I think it has a really explosive sound.
The Killers - The World We Live In
*This song was the only good thing to come out of watching the series premier of Melrose Place. The show ended with it and I fell in love. The song is on their newest album titled Day & Age.
Miley Cyrus - Party In The U.S.A.
*I've known so many people that have admitted (some unwillingly) that there is just something about this song that makes them love it!
The All-American Rejects - I Wanna
*I originally heard this song in the movie House Bunny and as soon as the band released the album I downloaded it.
Kings of Leon - Arizona
*This is a song from the bands not so well known album, Because Of The Times. If you are a fan of Kings of Leon I highly recommend checking out this album too.
Peter Gabriel - Solsbury Hill
*Like my honorable mention of In Your Eyes last week, I had to mention this song too. For some reason this song just reminds me of my younger years (even though I'm not that old).
Metric - Help I'm Alive
*Another song I fell in love with from The Vampire Diaries. It originally premiered on the pilot's trailer and then showed up in the second episode.
Everly - Quicksand
*Everly is a band formed from one of the cast members on One Tree Hill. After having many great solo songs provided to the show, Bethany Joy Galeotti joined forces with Amber Sweeney to create an American folk duo. So far every song released by them has been pretty good and has ended up on my iPod.
Death Cab for Cutie - Meet Me On the Equinox
*This is a song I was really excited to hear about. I posted last week that this song was to be on the New Moon soundtrack slated to release sometime in October. I love Death Cab and I love New Moon so you really couldn't go wrong here.

Artist Spotlight:

I originally heard about this band because of a song that was featured on the Twilight soundtrack. Then a couple weeks ago, I heard the song Backfire at an Oriole's game. After previewing the album at iTunes I fell in love with it. I hope you guys like it too! Here's how the album reviewed:

"With Armistice, MUTEMATH set out to "embarrass the first record," according to lead singer Paul Meany. Songs on Armistice range from the stripped down, piano driven "Lost Year" to the fun, indie rock dance-inducing "Spotlight" that was featured on the Twilight Soundtrack. This time out, some of the tracks venture much further into poppy territory. While, the songs are still very well written and well produced. Armistice opens with the high energy rock track "The Nerve". It's tinged with some distorted sounds that give it that MUTEMATH stamp. The mid-tempo "Backfire" is the album's second single and my favorite track. Here, like an homage to Murphy's Law, Meany recounts another "surefire plan that backfired again". The track exudes MUTEMATH's unique sound and has an addictive hook. "Backfire" is also one of the more electronic tracks on an album where the group's sound is expanding greatly. For fans, the first listen might be just a bit surprising, but their craftsmanship, creativity, and unique sound can't be denied. Did MUTEMATH embarrass their previous album? In my opinion, I would say no. Did they expand on their sound and possibly increase their chances of reaching a broader audience? Definitely."

Some of the notable songs for me are: Backfire, Clipping, Lost Year, & Spotlight.

Help me find the look!

So, I was watching my new fave show The Vampire Diaries last night when I fell head over heals in love with an outfit the character Caroline was wearing. After hours of searching, I finally tracked down a couple still shots of her in the outfit. Now comes the difficult part...I need to find the look. I don't need the exact one, but I really like the outfit. I already have the boots (that I couldn't get a good picture of). I have a pair of black and brown boots that would go. So my fellow fashionistas, I need your help finding the dress and the shrug at reasonable prices of course. Please let me know if you find anything! Good luck! By the way, I've looked at Forever21, Charlotte Russe, Target, Ebay, & Overstock (all online) and haven't really found anything. Thanks for your help!

Great New Recipe!

This weekend I bought the newest issue of Taste of Home magazine at the grocery store. I had to wipe my face of the drool that was slowly coming out of my mouth. Everything looked soooo good, I couldn't wait to start trying all the new recipes. The issue was dedicated to quick prep times (15 minutes or less) and budget friendly meals. Well, I came home from work with a cold and unbeknownst to me Tim had one as well. I didn't really feel like cooking anything ridiculous and when I'm sick all I want is soup, but I wasn't in the mood for plain old canned soup. My trusty new magazine helped guide me to my fantastic dinner that took 5 minutes! My choice...Zippy Chicken Soup, it was wonderful and hit the spot! Plus the peppers really opened up my sinuses. Here's the recipe:

1 can condensed chicken noodle soup, undiluted
1 can condensed cream of chicken soup, undiluted
1 can diced tomatoes and green chilies
1 can white or shoepeg corn, drained (I used yellow corn)
1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
1/2 cup water

In a large saucepan, combine all ingredients. Cook and stir for 5 minutes or until cheese is melted. I topped with a dollop of sour cream and a side of tortilla chips. Enjoy!

The Lost Symbol & One Tree Hill Music

The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown comes out today!! I'm so excited even though I have a laundry list of books to read right now. I'm still working on The Time Travelers Wife, then I'll probably go to The Lost Symbol, but I also have the new Gregory Maguire book A Lion Among Men! Too much, too much! I've really been slacking on my reading too and that needs to stop. Anyway, I pre-ordered my copy weeks ago if you remember at Borders. I'm sure I'll get a phone call tomorrow to come pick up my copy. Happy reading everyone!

*UPDATE!! I got a phone call by the mid afternoon that my book had come in! Can't wait to pick it up.

Last night I got to see my favorite show One Tree Hill's season premier! Of course it was great, but I wanted to give you guys the music list since I get so much of my music from this show. I even have an OTH playlist on my iPod and it has over 300 songs just from the show. Last night had some really great music that will be adding to my iPod as soon as I get a chance. Here is the entire song list from last night

Iron & Wine - Belated Promise Ring
Phillip LaRue - Chasing The Daylight
A.J. Roach - Devil May Dance
Annie Stela - Heart
Novi Split - Hollow Notes
Phoenix - Love Like A Sunset, Part II
Matthew Perryman Jones - Out of Reach
Everly - Quicksand
The Parlotones - Rock.Paper.Scissors
The Eels - That Look You Gave That Guy

Stay tuned throughout the season for my weekly music updates. The show really has gotten me into music I would have never heard about had I not listened to the show. You can always check out the CW for a music list and I also use OneTreeHillWeb.net's music site for all my music needs.

All About New Moon

Well unless you live under a rock I'm sure you at least heard about the MTV VMA's last night. Yes there was soooo much drama for your mama, enough to make me want to buy my own "Kanye is a Douchebag" t-shirt and wear it everywhere! Because of all the other Beyonce/Kanye/Taylor triangle, there really was not enough press about the New Moon trailer that previewed. I thought it was amazing! I'm so excited to see it I can't believe it's so close. I am much happier than I was about Twilight. Everybody looks great. Dakota Fanning was a great choice for Jane and I am soooo impressed that they got Michael Sheen (not related to all the Sheens) to play Aro. You may recognize him from the Underworld movies, Frost vs. Nixon, & The Queen just to name a few. I love him as an actor, even though I imagined an older actor playing Aro, I'm sure he will not disappoint me. After the second trailer was released I was a little disappointed by the wolves. I wanted them to be meaner and I felt they were too cute and cuddly, I guess I wanted something a little more mean (like the Underworld Lycans). I have to say I am thoroughly impressed. Below is the trailer, let me know what you guys think!

Today I was listening to my internet radio (as always) and I heard a new Death Cab for Cutie that is going to be on the New Moon soundtrack! I also snagged a picture of the new cover art.

The soundtrack is set to release on October 20th. Other artists slated for the soundtrack are: Muse (duh! no shocker there), Coldplay, Radiohead or Thom Yorke solo, Band of Skulls, & possibly The Used...what a lineup! You can pre-order the soundtrack at Amazon and you can check out all things New Moon here, it's where I go to get the latest dish!

New Cosmetic Buys

Last week, I bought 2 new eye shadows at Target that I have been wanting to get for a couple of weeks. One was CoverGirl's Exact Eyelights Eye-Brightening Shadow for green eyes and the other was Physicians Formula: Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Shadow & Liner for green eyes. One was a big thumbs up and one was a HUGE thumbs down. Can you guess which one was the winner?

CoverGirl's was by far the biggest loser in this battle. There was just way too much pink first of all. And yes that may bring out the green in my eyes, but I looked like a clown. The color that was supposed to define the crease in the eye didn't even show up! It was such a waste of money, do not buy this product. It just wasn't as defining as I thought it was going to be. Since I used it once, I'm going to call CoverGirl first to try and get a refund (and sometimes they throw in some free stuff too), if that doesn't work I'll take it back to Target with the receipt.

The Physicians Formula product is really amazing. The shadow can be used wet or dry and it has 3 different sets of colors to be used together or you can even use them all individually. The best part about it was that it stood out. It wasn't too over the top, but I am not a fan of matte colors on my eyes. I like to be able to see the colors and to really accentuate my eyes. The only con to this product is that the brush that comes with it feels like it could break any minute. Other than I that I definitely recommend this product!

Must See TV Monday

I don't know about you, but I have loved One Tree Hill since it started 6 years ago. When they put Gossip Girl on the same night, it turned into my favorite TV watching night. We'll see how they go up against my Thursday night duo of The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural. One Tree Hill is kicking off their 7th season without 2 of their regular cast members, Chad Michael Murray & Hilarie Burton. However, they are gaining some new faces and of course some new drama. I'm not quite sure how well it's going to do without the 2 superstars, but I'm willing to give it a try. Here is the episode synopsis titled, "4:30 AM (Apparently They Were Traveling Abroad)". If you don't know, the shows titles are off of songs or album titles.

"Nathan learns of a shocking accusation that could hurt his career, much to the chagrin of his sports agent Clay. Brooke prepares to launch a new fashion line while Julian decides to produce a new movie. Haley's sister Quinn makes a surprise visit. Meanwhile, Jamie celebrates his 7th birthday." - nice and vague guys

Gossip Girl will be a very interesting one at that. This show just cracks me up because it is sooo over the top and it does have its occasional, "Oh my god!" moments. There were several cliffhangers at the end of last season including Blair & Chuck finally making it official and the return of the dreaded Georgina. This season I'm sure will have the same crazy antics and high school/freshman year drama and will not disappoint. Here is the episode synopsis titled,"Reversals of Fortune".

"As the summer comes to a close, Blair and Chuck are madly in love and adjusting to their new "in relationship status", breaking all traditional rules of dating as would be expected. Serena returns from her European adventure with many secrets to hide and a complicated relationship with Carter Baizen. Nate returns from his travels with a mysterious brunette, Bree Buckley in tow. Rufus, Dan, and Jenny spent the summer in the Hamptons, adjusting to the van der Woodsen's glamorous lifestyle surprisingly faster than any of them expected."

I hope you all enjoy it tonight as much as I will! I'm sure I'll have to battle Tim for TV time because of Monday Night Football. Tune in for One Tree Hill @ 8 and Gossip Girl @ 9.

NFL Sunday Football Kickoff!

The first NFL Sunday Football is here! We are heading over our friends Christina & Mike's house since they have DirectTV Sunday Ticket. It should be a great day to spend with friends while cheering on our favorite team, which is the Philadelphia Eagles by the way. This week the Eagles take on the Carolina Panthers @ 1 p.m. I'll be making my famous Mexican Dip to munch on (see below). Everyone I make this for always falls in love with it, so here is the recipe:

Shredded Lettuce
1 Tomato
2 Peppers
Scallions (I buy 1 bunch of them)
1 Package of Shredded Mexican Cheese
16 oz. of Sour Cream
16 oz. of Old El Paso Taco Sauce (2 bottles, your choice of spice)
16 oz. of Cream Cheese (2 packages)

Combine sour cream, cream cheese and taco sauce with hand mixer until mostly smooth (it's ok if there are a couple of lumps still). Pour mixture into baking dish or brownie pan (13x9 is the best size). Spread lettuce over top evenly, followed by tomatoes, then peppers, then scallions. Cover dish with entire bag of shredded cheese evenly. Refrigerate until use.

*You can make this dish using less of the cream cheese and taco sauce. I have always doubled the recipe because I usually make for a lot of people. The original recipe has 8 oz. of cream cheese and 8 oz. of taco sauce. Also, the original recipe calls for black olives that I don't add because unless they're drained properly they water down the dip. That and the fact that Tim hates olives. Please let me know if you make this because I want to know how it turns out for you. Enjoy!

We Are...Penn State!

The Nittany Lions take on the Syracuse Orange today, kickoff at 12pm (yes I'm an hour late). I unfortunately don't get to watch it here in VA since we don't have the Big Ten Network. So we have it up on the internet and catch the highlights whenever they play them on ESPN. I hope everyone is cheering on their favorite team this weekend. Don't forget to check back early next week for week 3's college polls!

Phillies Postseason Lottery & Great New Find

If you haven't registered yet for the Phillies Postseason Lottery, you need to! The Phillies have a more efficient ordering process for postseason ticket opportunities. Basically what they do is they offer to their season ticket holders first and what's left goes up for lottery. If you win the lottery then you get the chance to purchase tickets for the postseason. I've had friends win before and they got really lucky! Tickets are obviously at face value and you just never know what you could come up with. The current lottery is for the first round of the playoffs (NLDS series). They'll do this with every round the team gets through. To register for the lottery you can click here, and for all postseason ticket information go here.

Collegiate Snuggies!

So while I was on facebook last night, I came across an ad on the side of the page advertising Collegiate Snuggies!! Snuggies have been the butt of many jokes lately, especially the ones they made for dogs not too long ago. When I saw this I got so excited! I'm definitely buying a Penn State one! The regular ones they sell are definitely something to make fun of though, they look like Jedi robes from Star Wars. If their collegiate line sells, I'm sure they'll start selling them for the MLB, NFL, NBA, & NHL in no time! Click here for the Collegiate Snuggies website and order yours today, they're great Christmas gifts!

Must See TV Thursday Review

Last night was the premier of the CW's The Vampire Diaries. Unlike my experience on Tuesday with Melrose Place, I absolutely loved this show! It had me hooked within the first five minutes. It's dark but not cheesy, alluring and mysterious, but most importantly the music is brilliant! Music in a TV show (especially a teen drama) is critical to express the emotions the characters are feeling to the audience. It's how it gets the audience to relate on an emotional level with character. I was not disappointed with the acting, and I liked all the possible twists and turns that could be ahead. It didn't hurt that there was serious man candy to look at throughout the show either. Paul Wesley (Stefan) hasn't been in any memorable movies, but he's been on several successful TV shows with guest spots. His resume includes, 24, Army Wives, CSI, & Shark. Nina Dobrev (Elena) hasn't been in anything I've ever heard of, but she does a good job. If this show takes off like I know it will, these two actors are going to take off with it. The rest of the cast are a bunch of newbies as well, some even with previous CW experience. If you didn't get a chance to check it out last night you can watch an encore presentation tonight at 8 and Sunday at 8 as well. They have not released the full episode to watch online or the music list, but it should be coming soon. As soon as it does, I'll post it. I recognized a few bands like OneRepublic, The Fray, Matt Kearney, & Placebo. This will definitely be staying on my fall TV lineup!
"Picking up where the finale left off, Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) watch as the Devil (guest star Mark Pellegrino, "Lost") emerges from Hell.
The brothers and Bobby (Jim Beaver) deal with the aftermath of Lucifer rising and the stunning news from Chuck the Prophet (guest star Rob Benedict) that Castiel (Misha Collins) was blown to bits by the archangels."

Every season Supernatural amazes me. They always end the previous season like there is no way they can come back from it and then boom they some how pull it together. The much anticipated 5th season didn't disappoint either. Even though I hear this could be the last season for show, I'm sure they will go out with a bang (they always do). The chemistry between Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki was really surprising. Jensen is an ex-soap star and Jared was Rory's ex-love in Gilmore Girls, and then he did House of Wax and totally let me down. They really are a believable brother pair especially because of the great banter they have on set. If you're a fan of the show I recommend tuning this season, and if you haven't seen it yet you can get the previous seasons on DVD just about anywhere.

Don't forget to tune in on Monday for the season premiers of One Tree Hill @ 8 and Gossip Girl @ 9, new night and new times. Make sure you pick up Season 6 of OTH and Season 2 of GG on DVD, they're in stores now!

Must See TV Thursday

Tonight on the CW there are two great premiers. At 8 is the series premier of The Vampire Diaries and at 9 is the fifth season premier of Supernatural. I have been a fan of Supernatural since the first season and I know that this season is not going to let me down. I am a little skeptical of The Vampire Diaries only because of my traumatic experience watching Melrose Place the other night. The show might just be too much vampire to handle. You have the Twilight series and True Blood already, can there really be a successful teen drama with vampires? Make sure you tune in tonight and check out my blog tomorrow morning for the reviews!

Current Playlist Volume 1

I don't know about everyone, but I am a HUGE music fan. I'm constantly downloading new and old music. I believe there is a soundtrack to everyone's life and no matter what you're feeling there's a song out there to match it. Lately I got a whole bunch of new music and a couple of some oldies that I didn't have. I have such a crazy mix of music in my iPod, I like everything from Indie to Classical. I wanted to put together my current playlist and highlight some great bands I've come across. After typing them all out I realized I had a lot so I'm going to split up the posts over a couple weeks.

MGMT - Kids
*Just an all around great alternative, happy song.
Jason Derulo - Watcha Say
*I love this song because of the background vocals of Imogen Heap that are from her song, Hide And Seek.
Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes
*Heard this song on my internet radio, I heart radio, while I was listening to Radio 104.5 out of Philly. I realized I didn't have it in my iPod and downloaded as soon as I got home.
Matisyahu - One Day
*Such a great, catchy tune from a very unique artist.
Muse - Uprising
*Muse is one of those bands that are hit and miss for me, some songs are awesome while others just don't do anything for me. The band is also Twilight author Stephanie Meyer's favorite.
Cage the Elephant - Ain't No Rest for the Wicked
*Another song that just got me from the first moment I heard it.
Civil Twilight - Letters from the Sky
*What an awesome haunting song, look for an artist spotlight on these guys soon.
Kelly Clarkson - Already Gone
*I loved her album, My December, which was considered a flop because it was a more edgy Clarkson than we had seen. This song reminds me of that album in a way. It's not as pop as she has been and is just a great ballad by her.
Three 6 Mafia feat. Kaleena - Shake My
*These guys are what I wanna hear when I'm out to dance! This new song is going to be a hit!
MuteMath - Backfire
*This band has just totally got me! I first heard of them because they were on the Twilight soundtrack, and this song I heard at Camden Yards last week. I'll be doing an artist spotlight on them as well at some point.
Anberlin - True Faith
*I absolutely love this band. Their new single is a cover by New Order and they did an amazing job. They also do a great cover of The Cure's Love Song.

Artist Spotlight:

A band I stumbled across actually while perusing iTunes last week. I immediately fell in love with them from the first song I heard. Here is the album review from iTunes:

"Mixing full-throttle rock with dollops of blue-eyed soul, vintage R&B and melodic pop radio anthems in-the-making, Parachute has arrived.
The band's debut Mercury/Island Def Jam Music Group album takes off from the individual members' shared histories, from "She Is Love," the ballad torch song and first single, with its Van Morrison-like scatting by lead singer/songwriter/guitarist and piano player Will Anderson, to Nate McFarland's chiming, The Edge-styled chunks of guitar laced through "Back Again," "Under Control," "Ghost," "Words Meet Heartbeats" and "All That I Am." With a diverse selection of influences ranging from old-school legends like Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Paul Simon and Journey to newer acts like U2, Coldplay, Weezer, Ben Folds, Maroon 5, John Mayer, Jay-Z, Kanye West, The Fray and the Arcade Fire, the group began to attract a rabid local following under the name Sparky's Flaw. Make no mistake about it. Parachute is headed for a happy landing."

The album is great, but my favorite songs are: All That I Am, She Is Love, Ghost, & Blame It On Me. Another great thing about the band is that they are local from Charlottesville, VA where they met in high school and went to college at UVA together. Please check them out and let me know what you think.

Series Premier: Melrose Place Review

Well boys and girls I tuned in tonight to watch the much anticipated series premier of Melrose Place on the CW. Just like I felt about the 90210 remake last year, I was not impressed. If I had four hands I would give four thumbs down. I was a big fan of the original show, but this was a lame excuse at reviving a show that needed to stay in our TV past. It was nice to see some familiar faces like Thomas Calabro (Dr. Michael Mancini) and Laura Leighton (Sydney Andrews) who look really great all these years later. The new cast leaves me feeling like I could have taken a couple more acting classes and done much better. I will say good things about Kate Cassidy (yes David Cassidy's daughter) who I am a fan of from Supernatural and the movie Taken. Another face that may have looked familiar to you is Michael Rady who played Jonah Miller also known as Costas from Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies. Last but not least the most familiar face was Ashlee Simpson-Wentz (Violet Foster) who much like her sister should really not sing or act. Even though you will find some of her songs on my ipod because they are catchy, she has failed the same way her big sis has in movies like The Dukes of Hazzard. If I were her, I'd quit while I was ahead and concentrate on being a new mom and my marriage which I hear is not doing too well. I will say this, the show had some really good music (most CW shows do) and the cliff hanger at the end was the best part of it all. In the grand scheme of things I'm sure the originals were just as cheesy, but I was just too young and caught up in it to notice. Sorry folks I will not be adding the new Melrose Place to my fall TV watching pleasure. It was a good try to revive the much loved show oh so many years ago, but in the end there was much to be desired.

Here's a list of the music shown in last nights episode. You can also click here to go to the CW's music page for the show.

Kevin Rudolf - Let it Rock
Say Hi - Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh
Bright Eyes - The First Day of My Life
Sofi Bonde - Slowly BV BV
David Carlson Smith - Don't Wait Too Long

Yankees vs. Orioles @ Camden Yards

Last Tuesday we had a good friend visiting and we got him tickets to see the Yankees play the O's in Baltimore. I had never been to Camden Yards and I couldn't even remember the last time I had been to the inner harbor. We had so much fun. Below are some of the pics from the day. I started getting a little fancy with my camera at one point, and I got some great black and white and wide angle shots.
